Re: Has Anyone Ever Heard of Radiant Life Church in Sacramento
Date: September 03, 2008 02:58PM
The proceeding post is in response to a message left on Ryan's myspace page from Joe.
I agreed with Joe's suggestion and will post the following scriptures running the risk of "preaching'
The suggestion was to use scripture as it is the only thing that stands true. And alongside of testimony it just make it more solid. So I went searching. Hear a some verses that I believe back up some of our testimonies. The first couple of verses I have put because they indicate the role of the Elders and Deacons. I also believe that the elders and deacons standards are the standards we should hold ALL leadership to. I am posting these because I believe that SOME of the leadership do not fit this criteria.
Titus 1:5-13 NLT
5 I left you on the island of Crete so you could complete our work there and appoint elders in each town as I instructed you. 6 An elder must live a blameless life. He must be faithful to his wife, and his children must be believers who don¡¦t have a reputation for being wild or rebellious. 7 For an elder must live a blameless life. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered; he must not be a heavy drinker, violent, or dishonest with money.
8 Rather, he must enjoy having guests in his home, and he must love what is good. He must live wisely and be just. He must live a devout and disciplined life. 9 He must have a strong belief in the trustworthy message he was taught; then he will be able to encourage others with wholesome teaching and show those who oppose it where they are wrong.
10 For there are many rebellious people who engage in useless talk and deceive others. This is especially true of those who insist on circumcision for salvation. 11 They must be silenced, because they are turning whole families away from the truth by their false teaching. And they do it only for money. 12 Even one of their own men, a prophet from Crete, has said about them, ¡§The people of Crete are all liars, cruel animals, and lazy gluttons.¡¨ 13 This is true. So reprimand them sternly to make them strong in the faith.
1Peter 5:1-51 NLT
And now, a word to you who are elders in the churches. I, too, am an elder and a witness to the sufferings of Christ. And I, too, will share in his glory when he is revealed to the whole world. As a fellow elder, I appeal to you: 2 Care for the flock that God has entrusted to you. Watch over it willingly, not grudgingly¡Xnot for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God. 3 Don't lord it over the people assigned to your care, but lead them by your own good example. 4 And when the Great Shepherd appears, you will receive a crown of never-ending glory and honor.
5 In the same way, you younger men must accept the authority of the elders. And all of you, serve each other in humility, for
"God opposes the proud
but favors the humble.¨
1 Timothy 3:1-10 NIV
1 Here is a trustworthy saying: IF anyone sets his heart on being an overseer, he desires a noble task. 2 Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach 3 not given to drunkeness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. 4 he must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him with proper respect. 5( if anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God's church) 6 He must bit be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgement of the devil. 7 He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil's trap.
8 Deacons, Likewise are to be men worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine, and not pursuing dishonest gain.9 they must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience. 10 They must first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons.
John 14:6-7 NLT
6 Jesus told him, ''I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. 7 If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is. From now on, you do know him and have seen him!"
I put this scripture, because I remembered an older post where someone indicated that they were told they were not mature enough to hear the Lord clearly, to listen to what the leadership was saying. Once we realize the ultimate truth we KNOW him.
I believe in Godly counsel, but do not like to discredit the actual line we have to God, in our PERSONAL relationship.
1 Timothy 6: 3-10 NLT ( this one really stuck out to me)
3 Some people may contradict our teaching, but these are the wholesome teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. These teachings promote a godly life. 4 Anyone who teaches something different is arrogant and lacks understanding. Such a person has an unhealthy desire to quibble over the meaning of words. This stirs up arguments ending in jealousy, division, slander, and evil suspicions. 5 These people always cause trouble. Their minds are corrupt, and they have turned their backs on the truth. To them, a show of godliness is just a way to become wealthy.
6 Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth. 7 After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can¡¦t take anything with us when we leave it. 8 So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content.
9 But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.
Romans 1:28-32
28 Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done. 29 Their lives became full of every kind of wickedness, sin, greed, hate, envy, murder, quarreling, deception, malicious behavior, and gossip. 30 They are backstabbers, haters of God, insolent, proud, and boastful. They invent new ways of sinning, and they disobey their parents. 31 They refuse to understand, break their promises, are heartless, and have no mercy. 32 They know God¡¦s justice requires that those who do these things deserve to die, yet they do them anyway. Worse yet, they encourage others to do them, too.
I find it interesting that they would lump in disobeying parents with all these other sins.
Anyways I hope that this is helpful
