From chapter 1 of The Lucifer Effect - some different ways of looking at evil: Essentialist vs Incrementalist QuoteThe idea that an unbridgeable chasm separates good people from bad people is a source of comfort for at least two reasons. First, it creates a binary logic, in which Evil is essentialized. Most of us perceive Evil as an entity, a quality that is inherent in some people and no

Dr. Zimbardo's definition of evil, for "The Lucifer Effect" is: QuoteEvil consists in intentionally behaving in ways that harm, abuse, demean, dehumanize, or destroy innocent others - or using one's authority and systemic power to encourage or permit others to so on your behalf. In short, it is "knowing better but doing worse". In terms of lgats

Hi Margie, This is really good news, I'm happy for you and I hope things continue to improve for you and your husband. You said: QuoteAlthough his therapist wasn't familiar with MKP he was understanding of how there is a lot of cult-like groups, and was dismayed when I told him of some of the activities during NWTW. This is really worth emphasising for people who are seeking

Thank you Passionate and formerimpactgrad. I feel I'm missing something significant about the group dynamics, but I don't know what - not what I thought though! Thanks for clarifying this for me.

I have a question about how group dynamics are manipulated in the trainings and I thought I'd ask it on this thread, because there are so many members here with significant experience staffing trainings. Is there an explicit plan to set up different group members in the trainings with specific roles... e.g. leader, scapegoat, good model, bad model etc? If so how is this played on by the

Fair enough. Having read and analysed both books, can you maybe explain how they are similar and different in terms of how the behaviour and phenomena they describe explains how people are manipulated during large group awareness training? Or in any other way relate the books to large group awareness training?

I originally wanted to post the info about The Lucifer Effect under the "Coercive Persuasion" thread because it details the mechanisms of manipulation and that was the topic under coercive persuasion. I decided against posting there because there was too much distraction from disconnnect. Now the same problem here. Disconnect, I've looked at several sites on the Lucifer Prin

There are five different types of programs described, as well as the general basic

Hi Rs, I think the lifeboat, red-black game etc are done in Quest, Lift-off and Summit at Impact, then they have another course called TIT where they teach people that they are God and Jesus and can do miracles with staffs, and by chanting crazy things about purple lights while polishing their crystals... or some such nonsense... also that they are Masters of the Universe from a sunken contin

Passionate, your agree-promote technique is equivalent to saying: I don't agree with drugs and I don't recommend them. But hey, I had a lot of fun and I'm going to miss them and you know, on some of my acid trips I really learnt a lot about myself. Just the kind of thing a drug-peddler would say to a roomful of schoolkids.

You are trying to confuse the issue by pretending to agree with Maurice. His point is that the exercise is inherently meaningless, designed only to cause stress leading to psychological breakdown. Your list of thoughts implies there is meaning to the exercises, e.g. Quote 4. I have been living my life in a poor manner. This pre-supposes the exercies says something about how peopl
