I haven't been involved in MDI specifically, or any other (apparently) free-standing mens organisation, so I don't have specific experience to share in that. I've been involved in Quest, which is an offshoot of EST, as are many other organisations listed here, such as Landmark, lifespring, PSI, mankind organisation etc. They share a common root 'philosophy' and set of

I don't have any dealings with the group but the jargon is the same. Look at the language they use on their website - the price of the course is the 'investment' - well that's just not plain english, its manipulation english. An investment is: "the investing of money or capital in order to gain profitable returns, as interest, income, or appreciation in value."

And as for all this gender stuff - its also based on the EST trainings, and propaged around the world in every copycat program. It goes something like this: "men must be men and women must be women" - how profound. Women are more powerful than men; women hold all the power. Powerful people empower others. Women must empower men by making themselves vulnerable and allowing men to

I suggest you give this article to your friends to read. It describes the room setup on landmark education. If Klemmer is using the Quoteconfrontation, group dynamics, strictly controlled environment, limited bathroom and meal breaks to produce a "breakthrough" techniques then they are VERY likely to be using the exact same room setup that most of these groups seem to use. The training is called Quest Quest is the basic training, there's an intensive advanced training called inquest, which to me is what is most dangerous. Also other evening courses, like intention quest, relationship quest, power quest etc. And then there's a kiddies quest, quest for children. Processes on basic quest: - arc (circle of trust / personal contact indicated by

No need to apologise or change your ways. I agree the state of a persons mental health may influence whether they get involved or how long they stay involved, but I think there are many more factors. For example: 1. Money - wealthy people seem to get more positive feedback and less harrassment, and so are less likely to want to get out. 2. Friends and family involved - if your friends

   I missed this last time: QuoteAnd he apologized to them like you would apologize to someone who says 'you're kicking my invisible dog' The more I read the more I want to cry or break something, and I end up laughing. Thanks for posting all these reminders, they're really really helpful. Do you have a link to that video in a format other than

Thanks - found Kopp article on room setup, excellent. Like going backstage on a bad-magic show. RS, you are right, these companies sure are re-writing belief systems, and I really wonder how much of it is money-grabbing, how much do they actually believe 'innocently' and is there yet another agenda behind it all? I don't agree we were all in an unhealthy place to start wit

Does anybody have specific information to help ... deconstruct... the environment and processes that manipulate emotions in the trainings? I know this is difficult to anwer because of all the 'agreements' to keep these things secret, but the few details I've found on the site so far have been the most helpful. I have read the articles about general things like controlling tim

Hi Maurice, At the higher levels did any religious ideas creep in? On quest in the basics there is a lot of talk about 'your beliefs are f*cking up your life' and then a lot of attacks on religious and political beliefs. And they explicitly state that they are not a religious organisation. But then it gets to 'you create your own reality' .... 'you chose your pa

... I'd forgotten that too - everyone clapping and cheering for the trainer - but also for the assistants / volunteers. Sum total of payment for their work. Isn't weird to forget so many things? Is that part of it do you think? How do you remember so much?

Another angle on enrolling - aside from the tuesday night 'graduation' for enrolling and all the other overt pressures to enroll, I think another factor is the isolation that comes from the commitment to maintain secrecy about the trainings. You can't talk to other people who've done the training because all you get is gobbledy-gook (at best, if you really question anything t

Speaking of extraoordinary, I wonder whether you've seen this trick: The 'advertising' tells you they'll teach you how to lead an 'extraordinary' life. I saw a trainer confront someone who wanted to stand during a process where she was supposed to be sitting, and berate her loudly and publicly with 'who are you to stand when everyone else is sitting? do yo

On the quest trainings there was a clear distinction (and hence double-bind and extra confusion) between the basic and advanced. On the basic the emphasis was on 'everyone creates their own reality' so you are not responsible for other people. If they don't like something you say or do, its 'their sh*t" and "nothing to do with you". This was relatively harmle

Hello, Thank you for this site. South Africa has a set of trainings called Quest, Inquest and Conquest, which sound equivalent to Landmark, Impact, Lifespring etc. They are run by Wendy and Buster Sefor. Does anyone have specific information about these trainings, or have you had negative effects from the training? I did Quest and Inquest a few years ago and had a psychotic break after
