Yes, when I refer to the "father" in my posts, it's actually the mental image that has been projected from the pulpit to the listeners for so many years. Early on, John set the tone when he shared his supposed meeting with God in Holy Jim Canyon, where God allegedly threatened to kill him for his "withdrawal." Not someone (I think) you would feel free partying with.

Cloudwatcher – The last few books I’ve read are: Combating Cult Mind Control by Steven Hassan, Cults Inside Out by Rick Ross, Freedom of Mind by Steven Hassan, Twisted Scriptures by Alice Chrnalogar, I Fired God by Jocelyn Zichterman, and When Prophesy Fails by Leon Festinger, Henry Riecken, and Stanley Schachter. The thing that has stood out to me in these books is not so much what was taught in TLWF (though TLWF is not specifically mentioned in any of these books), but the techniques that were used to teach it. I realize that we are all in different stages of recovery, but the thing I’ve been trying to understand in my own life is how TLWF was able to get me to believe things that now are blatantly ridiculous once the deception bubble has popped. There are also many other sources of information on the Cult Education website. Another thing I found interesting was to watch several videos on youtube dealing with mind control and hypnosis.

I think it is important to come to an understanding of what happened. It is so hard to take--but facing it will be empowering. I have yet to embrace it completely even though I see it going on with my own eyes.

It is my hope to help others. The guilt is strong and the sorrows so many. But there is a beautiful field awaiting me I know--one I can run and jump and roll around in--maybe even bust my head on a rock and get amnesia==to be delightfully unaware of the past.

It's been mentioned a number of times on this forum that the so-called "worship in the spirit" placed people in a very receptive state to receive just about anything spoken from the pulpit. The ridiculous notions we had about John, Marilyn etc. were probably not possible unless we first entered this trance-like state of consciousness enabled by those worship services. I figure in the 20+ years I spent in the fellowship, attending an average of 4-5 services/meetings a week, I must have participated in a minimum 3500 worship sessions. Repetition brings results for those seeking to control.
And who can forget all those "repeat after me" intercession sessions? That certainly was enough to fry the brain.
Anyway, at least the main nephilim eventually died--so it wasn't completely fruitless. I find some solace in that.

Thanks for providing a list of books, Larry. I haven't read a single one. Time to get started!

Fascinating. The passing of Martha does nothing for me.
