The human comedy that is Wikipedia just lost one of its more intriguing players.

Late December saw the departure (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Jossi) of uber-administrator Jossi Fresco, a longtime member of a worldwide religious movement that Time Magazine lists among the mega-cults of the 1970s, the heyday of the mega-cult.

Fresco retired after another contributor - known only as "Durova" - publicly questioned (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Durova/Scientology_arbitration/Jossi_evidence) his Wikibehavior. Durova launched an ad hoc investigation into Fresco's on-site habits in response to a February article (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/02/06/the_cult_of_wikipedia/) from The Register.

Fresco is a student of Prem Rawat - formerly Guru Maharaj Ji - the India-born spiritual leader who styled himself as the "Perfect Master" and fostered a worldwide religious movement encouraging followers to call him "Lord of the Universe." Fresco has acknowledged that he works for an organization "related" to Prem Rawat, and according to an ex-Rawat-follower and former friend, he served on the guru's personal staff, building his first website.

Wikipedia fancies itself a "neutral" encyclopedia. But for years, Jossi Fresco maintained strict control over the site's Prem Rawat article and countless related articles. When our initial story appeared, the Wikipedia Prem Rawat article did not include the word cult.

That said, Fresco played a significant role in shaping those guidelines. Shortly after Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines were drafted in October 2006, for instance, he removed a section that forbade guru followers from editing articles about their masters.

In the wake of our February article, Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy "Jimbo" Wales called Fresco "a great Wikipedian (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Jimbo_Wales&diff=prev&oldid=190110417)." Fresco has contributed more edits to Wikipedia than all but 80 other people. And he was particularly influential when it came to editing site guidelines and policies.

"Jossi ranks among the top three editors by contributions to three out of the four key content policies," a senior admin told us in February. "What makes this remarkable is that two of those policies have been in existence since Wikipedia was founded, long before he got involved, so he's made enough recent edits to catch up."

The latest Wikievidence against Fresco was posted after he attempted to intervene in a Wikicourt trial involving the Church of Scientology. According to site administrators, several pro-Scientology accounts have been editing the site using Scientology-owned computers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_arbitration/Scientology/Evidence#Conflict_of_interest).

One of these pro-Scientology editors - who once used the handle "COFS" - has admitted as much. And he vows to continue editing Scientology articles from Scientology computers. "I am not going to leave voluntarily and I will continue to use a) my own computer, b) public computers, c) my wireless laptop, d) computers in the Church of Scientology and any station I please," this editor wrote.

There are some notable names from the Internet/tech world in Reese Jones's Mobissimo network. Jimmy Wales, founder of Wikipedia. Howard Rheingold, writer of early books on cyberculture. Some of the other names seemed familiar also.

One also must notice that Reese Jones does NOT have a Wikipedia entry. Why not? He owns and runs many companies and has been very active in the internet for decades in dozens of areas.

Notice how the wikipedia for One Taste was allowed to be completely rewritten by a random person, in a very biased and grammatically poor fashion, and no one touched it until a couple days ago. I like The Web is at the intersection of publishing and the telephone, from today's DaveNet. For years I've believed that the Net is an evolutionary expansion of telephony, an idea I owe to Reese Jones, the brain researcher who founded Farallon Computing (now Netopia) and invented the original PhoneNet connector. Those connectors turned any bunch of Macs into a peer-to-peer LAN.

well, well, well...the grand old lady the New York Times has reprinted a infotainment "article" advertisement on OneTaste and Nicole Daedone.
Its like reading this forum, but without hard facts, and more advertising copy.
Clearly, this is one of those "articles" where some PR company, well connected and VERY expensive, mines their Rolodex to get a story done, to shape the PR image of their clients. Its funny how that works after the real facts start coming out in internet forums. Go figure.

Notice they had it put into the FASHION section right at the TOP OF THE PAGE. You have to wonder how that works...how the PR company finds the friendly writers at the paper, and gets them to write what they want them to write, and then get the top placement from the page Editor. It does make one wonder how that system works. But it says SAN FRANCISCO at the top, so one assumes they know how to get their local SF puff-piece top billing in the NYT Fashion page.


It reminds one of the PR pieces that pretend to be "articles" in the local SF papers, which one can probably get in exchange for a hooker, blow and a brown envelope. (or maybe a free prostate OM massage?)

Of course, they do a minor nod to the serious questions about OneTaste, like bad old Victor Baranco and his Mindfucking Mind Control techniques while running an abusive sex cult as documented in this thread. (hey, why don't they cite their reference for the Vic Baranco tip!)
and this is what they say about Daedone...

NYT on Nicole Daedone:

Hey NYT, why not follow that up? Ya think? "CULTLIKE POWERS OVER HER FOLLOWERS". That is a clue, one might want to research and flesh out. (at least they appear to have interviewed some former OneTaste people, so thumbs up for that, at least).

They mention some bullshit about a Ray Vetterlein, which is a distraction Red Herring. Its quoted in this fucking thread where Daedone's partner Robert Kandell said she studied Vic Baranco for 7 years!!! Then they removed it from the internet, after it was mentioned.

Its a clever strategy, you admit that certain critics said _____, and then pump up some advertising spin right after. You say some call it a cult, admit to some cultic Guru practices, and then disarm those objections, by saying now everything is different.

But who knows what they are smoking over there at OneTaste.
They actually think masses of people are going to join a sex-commune "cult" run for profit in NYC?
Someone with a lot of money to burn ain't thinking too clearly, perhaps the blood flow has been somewhat diverted from an otherwise intelligent mind.


But on a serious note...why did the NYT Fashion lifestyle stylists, completely ignore the questions about young women allegedly being taken advantage of?

Why did they ignore asking questions about the alleged orgies, and the "open relationships"?
They make it sounds like a love relationship seminar for yuppie couples. Why don't they tell the truth about that?
Why did they just print that Naked Yoga is cancelled, there is no touching, and everyone at OneTaste is now Mother Theresa? What a load of rubbish.

Why always with the PR propaganda?
Why not just be honest?
But no, they want to clean it up, and make it sound like Leave It To Beaver.

That is the problem with these types of culty sex groups. They advertise Spiritual Sensual Massage, but that ain't what its about. Any idiot can see that, have a look at the facts.

Its a clone of a sex-cult for profit.
Is mixing sex, mind-control cult techniques, and profit, a good idea?
Sex for profit with sophisticated group persuasion techniques?

Again, these sex-groups always try to act like they are the most HONEST people on earth, unlike the unwashed masses who lie about the nature of sex.
