Apostate
Hi Jezebel, "X" confessed to molesting two children because he wanted to make them "feel good". This confession would be enough to bar him from attending the bedside of any Australian child in a hospital setting as a volunteer visitor, ever. Why? Because of risk, to the child, and the hospital. It is not the responsiblity of a hospital to "forgive" and "forget" such confessions, and Dave would be foolish to cite this as an example of persecution of a "good deed". Those having access to children and vulnerable adults are vetted by our health system to ensure risk is minimised, if not removed. If "X" is Casey, then Dave ought to start feeling a little uncomfortable as he is permitting an unacceptable risk to occur. "X" may indeed be completely free of temptation to repeat his past behaviour with children, but that is not a judgement call Dave can rightly make. "X" lost his trustworthiness in his confession and ongoing acceptance of Dave's minimising. "X" needs to "forsake" his desire to work with children as continuing to do so is to put himself in front of a temptation of which he previously succumbed.
Excellent post, Apostate. McKay is simply trying to cover his own arse here. He couldn't care less about protecting the safety of children.
His confession would also bar him from working alongside children in the UK. He would almost certainly be placed on the sex offenders register for a period. I believe his confession would also bar him from working alongside children in Kenya. He certainly wouldn't get anywhere near a children's charity.
