ApostateThe below patient details are lifted from [
www.adopt-a-patient.webs.com]. I have censored their names to protect the privacy of each individual and have to ask what the ethics board at the Kenyatta National Hospital would think of this? Do they even know if their patient details are being sent around the globe vIa internet. Have the children and older patients been asked to sign a release of information consent form? Is the Chief Public Relations officer of the Kenyatta National Hospital aware of the website releasing all this information? Why are Robin and Christine not providing appropriate guidance regarding this matter, as they completed a Registered Nurse degree years ago?
I have written to the hospital by their provided email address advising them of my concerns and will let them deal with the matter as they see appropriate.
While the action of visiting patients is an admirable one I think patients would be best served if confidentiality regarding their medical details remain intact.

BEGIN PASTE OF PATIENT INFO LIFTED FROM "ADOPT A PATIENT" WEBSITE............................................................................................
XXXXX:
XXXXX is a 2 year old infant with hydrocephalus which means he has an unusually large head. He does not speak or walk and it's difficult to take him out of bed without the proper wheel chair system to support his neck, which the hospital does not have. However, he can be very active.
He likes to grab onto your fingers and "dance" around; please be sure to provide your own drum beat as well! If you dance well enough, you'll get some squeals and giggles out of him for sure.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
XXXXX:
XXXXX is a 6 year old boy who suffered from a disease which paralyzed his arms and legs and affected his mind. It is not clear how much he understands, but he can be a bit moody untill he gets to know you a bit better. I suspect he would like for someone to read a story or two to him! UPDATE: XXXXX was recently given his own personal wheelchair as a donation so if you volunteer to visit him, don't forget to take him out for a stroll in his new hotrod!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
XXXXX
XXXXX is a 10 year old girl in the Oncology ward. Unfortunately she lost one of her eyes to cancer but she is a very bright and happy child who is now participating in the school program.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
XXXXX
XXXXX is a young boy in the Oncology ward. Due to retinal cancer he lost both his eyes, although he is making some good progress in learning how to live with it. Story telling would be a fantastic way to interact with this child and bring a bit of light back into his life.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
XXXXX:
XXXXX is an 8 year old boy in the burn ward. He is also very bright and likes to draw pictures, though he often seems a bit too sad for a child of his age. However, we hope he'll cheer up a bit as he participates in the school program.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
XXXXX
XXXXX is a 7 year old boy who is unable to walk, although he has a wheel chair which he is able to use quite well, even though it's an adult sized chair! He was abandoned at the hospital and has a very nice personality. He is currently enrolled on the school program but it will be a looooong process for him with tutoring only once a week.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
XXXXX
XXXXX is a 12 year old boy in the same ward with XXXXX. He is an IDP (internally displaced person) which basically means he is a refugee in his own country because of the chaos resulting from controversial elections back at the end of 2007. It is not clear what happened to his family and he recieves no visitors. He is currently enrolled on the school program. His subjects are English and Kiswahili
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
XXXXX
XXXXX is a 60 year old woman with brain damage. It is not clear how much she understands but she is able to respond to commands like "turn over" and "eat" and she often wiggles around when speaking directly to her so it appears she has some understanding of what is happening around her. Perhaps hearing a story or two would do her some good. UPDATE: XXXXX was recently given her own personal wheelchair so if you decide to visit with her, don't forget to take her for a spin!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
XXXXX
XXXXX in a young boy who is also now participating in the school program. It's sometimes hard to know what he is thinking as his facial expressions seem to change from sad to happy and back again every few minutes.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
XXXXX:
XXXXX is a young woman who is also mentally challenged, but she knows English and is quite good at responding to conversation, though it's sometimes difficult to understand her responses. She was abandoned in town and brought to the hospital by good samaritans 1 year ago.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
XXXXX:
XXXXX is a middle aged man. He has some family but they live far away and they cannot afford the transport to visit him. He was recommended by the doctor to be a worthy patient for visitation.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
XXXXX:
XXXXX is a middle aged man with a mental challenge. Apparently, he was beaten by police at sometime in his past and he still has dreams about it now. He knows how to respond to questions and general conversation but has difficulties expressing himself. With a bit of patience it is possible to have a meaningful conversation. UPDATE: XXXXX was recently given his own personal wheelchair so if you decide to visit him, please consider taking him for a spin around the ward!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
XXXXX
XXXXX is a very long term resident at the hospital, mainly because she is slightly mentally challenged and she has no where else to go. However, she is able to hold a decent conversation and to express herself well enough to be understood.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
XXXXX:
XXXXX is a very friendly woman with a very serious hip injury. She cannot leave her bed and even though she is discharged, she still feels quite a bit of pain when she attempts to move. She enjoys reading, but knows very little English.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
XXXX;
XXXX is a bit of a special needs case who was hit by a car. It seems she may have suffered a bit of brain damage, but the extent is not clear. She is able to talk, but rarely does so. It also appears that she is suffering from extreme depression, which could be the reason why she speaks very little, as opposed to brain damage. She could benefit very much from a patient volunteer.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
XXXXX:
XXXXX is a middle aged man who is also discharged from the hospital but cannot leave because of fees. He is waiting to get back to his wife and two children who live far away and cannot afford the transport fees to visit him.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

XXXXX is a 15 year old orphan, although she recieves occasional visits from her cousin. She was studying in class 7 but due to some extremely bad burns on her legs from a cooking accident a few months ago she is now living in the hospital. She was recently added to the school program and the total enrolment is up to 7 children now. XXXXX chose to study maths and English and was very excitited to recieve her new schools books. She was also given some clothing, as she only had a hospital robe to wear previously.
