bakkagirl, You might want to go back a page, (on this very thread), and read corboy's post from September 30, 2016 09:22PM. The part that i would like to draw to your attention to is in the first 11 paragraphs. It has mostly to do with the "freeze response," and also "amygdala hijack." I recall that you had spoken of a difference in reactions to boundary viol

Incredible that all of these details have been published in the news; the way that the women were recruited for a "self-empowerment" program the way that they were manipulated and indoctrinated the collecting of "collateral" the blackmail the branding the coerced sex, and yet, on social media, so many of the comments argue that it was all done with the

Yes, corboy is right. In addition, the assault on the ego is absolutely vicious, and goes way beyond what would normally be experienced in real life. This begins early, and continues throughout at least the first two days. No matter what you say, you are ALWAYS wrong, (even when you're right, as in the example when everyone remembers that they had to be back at 7:30, and after the fac

bakkagirl, I'm not qualified to say much here, but wanted to comment on this part: "Folks from Asian cultures have vastly different personal/ego boundaries, and responses to group experiences and AUTHORITARIAN leadership, IMHE." I can say from experience that Landmark DELIBERATELY disrespects people's boundaries. If they fail to violate them on the first try, they wil

egoldstein, I just finished reading. I feel that it was well worth reading in its entirety. The section that shows the stressors inherent in thought reform is on point, in my opinion, and i did observe most of those things in my LGATs experience. The sections before and after that provided information that was new to me, and helped additiinal pieces fall into place.

I love this explanation, (pages 382, 383): "Kahneman (2012) distinguishes between two basic systems that operate in our minds. System 1 (or “fast thinking”) “operates quickly, with little or no effort and no sense of voluntary control” (p. 20). It is asserted that this system is intuitive, makes use of heuristics (cognitive “rules of thumb”) and that, through experience, this sys

egoldstein, Thanks! It is tempting to skip ahead, but then i would be missing relevant parts like this: "2.4.6 Emotional allostasis It is well established that physical and cognitive changes occur in response to stressors (real, anticipated, and imaginary), but literature on the emotional response to stressors is less comprehensive. If, however, evolution has ensured that, when f

egoldstein, Thank you for making this available. It's going to take me awhile to read it all, (especially on my small cellphone), but it it great, so far. I am about 1/4 of the way through, and at this point, everything looks dead-on. I hope this information can be used to help fight these organizations. Thank you again, kdag

Stella, Heres a link for you to read: www.yourtango.com/experts/marni-feuerman/signs-abusive-relationship This is only from a layman's perspective, but I'm getting the impression that years with your current husband have eroded your ability to set boundaries with these women. He probably increased his control over you gradually, until he had way too much power. Although t

I'm not sure what's going on, as far as your not being able to react. I have had that happen to me, too, where i would not respond to something at the time, and know that i should have. I believe that you wrote in your first post that you would respond differently if it were a man behaving this way. Is there any way that you could mentally figure out what you would say or do, if i

P.S. : If i can make a suggestion: When you talk to AA, or an attorney, counselor, etc, about all of this, focus only on the behavior of the chairperson and ginger that is upsetting you. There is no need to describe yourself or your clothing. The behavior of these people would be wrong no matter your gender or what you look like. I had the feeling that you felt the need to defend your

Stella, When you describe how you feel and behave around your husband, and describe his behavior, it sounds to me like an abusive relationship. I'm no expert, but the fact that you are always walking on eggshells is a huge red flag. I see so many red flags in your post. It sounds to me as if you had some bad experiences as a kid/teen that made it very difficult for you to stand up for yo

Stella, I'm sorry if my answers sounded short or curt. I was trying to put the information you need in a nutshell. I now realize that you were also looking for some feedback. So, 1. I DO believe you. 2. This behavior, on the part of these women, is NOT normal. It is not normal in ANY setting, let alone in any type of support group. When you ask someone to stop, and they contin

Stella, After re-reading your post, i saw that you are reluctant to attend a mixed meeting due to a jealous husband. This sounds overly controlling on his part. Most supportive partners would want you to attend a meeting where you will not be harassed, There is another forum on this, website about Abusive and Controlling Relationships. You might want to check there an see if that fits. I

Stella wrote: "She asked if she could touch my breasts. I was like, No! Then I said, alright..." Okay, that was your first mistake. From my perspective, you DO need to give them a short, succint "NO!" Then stick to your guns. If you cant do that, or if it persists, you need to find another meeting. I would also report them to AA, either at the local or national level

I am not going to comment on most of this. People will form their own opinions. There is just one thing that i would say about locked doors. In an earlier post, dirtbikes stated that people were locked in. That would be a giant abuse of authority, and probably against fire codes. I also agree that parents should not be locked out of children's classes. In this latest post, it is

Noncompliant, I have seen a lot of people, especially "new age" types, subscribe to that belief. As far as I'm concerned, they can have their beliefs and voice them. The way i saw it tweaked by LGATS was in the way that some of the people involved would push. If you have been diagnosed with these conditions, then your boyfriend is unqualified, and had no place trying to ove

* I will add a couple of specifics here. Traditional new age teachings had nothing to do with totalitarianism, but I see many of my old friends headed in that direction and believing that it speaks of a more 'evolved" spirituality. "You must do what is in the highest good of 'The Collective.'" How on earth would I (or anyone else) know that? There were no re

Gloria G, Yes, in addition to fear, they also instill a tremendous amount of guilt. If you are not susceptible to one, they will try for the other. It seemed to me that they aimed for everyone's Achille's heels, and exploited them as much as they possibly could.

Thank you, Corboy, All of this is true. In addition, you can hold someone responsible/accountable for a specific threat, but when they deliberately make it vague and confusing, they can claim that it wasn't a threat. They can chalk it up to your interpretation, and if you push it, they will turn the tables; saying that YOU are being problematic, or just plain paranoid. When this was

The fear exercise is the most obvious, but they also have other, more subtle ways of instilling fear. You will walk into the Center, and someone there will inquire about some detail of your personal life which you had not shared anyone at Landmark. This creeped me out much more than the fear meditation, which was more straightforward. You will wonder how they knew that, and then you will remem

Noncompliant, I can't say that it effected me in exactly the same way, but I certainly noticed what I considered to be changes in my mood, and possibly my nervous system. I felt, (still feel), numb. It has been noted, in several other threads, that LGATS training targets the body, and certain areas of the brain. From my experience, I believe it. The thread about the room set-up has m
