I must confess that I haven't actually seen Byron Katie take someone back to childhood abuse in front of the TV cameras and was responding to what I read somewhere above. (I stopped watching her on the internet because what I was seeing made me feel very uncomfortable). But what I have seen her do is (a) get the person to open up and become vulnerable and then (b) turn it around so that their perception of what they experienced is dismissed, and they are made to buy in to her reality. That is humiliating and can be deeply traumatising to people who are vulnerable, and if they are already near break-down could push them over the edge.

An old and interesting post--a therapist whose client refused to do The Work because this client had prior experience with EST and didnt want any exposure to something so similar.

And this therapist proceeded to blather about this to a bunch of BK types. Dialogue is priceless.
