Wombat is here as an apologist. Ironically, some years ago he was here at this message board complaining about a group seeking help and/or some feedback and solace. But apparently now he has moved on to another questionable group and has become an apologist. Groups called "cults" frequently threaten to sue people that critically speak out. They don't seem to understand tha

To whom it may concern: Psychiatrist Robert Jay Lifton wrote a paper published at Harvard titled "Cult Formation" within which he defined a destructive cult. Wombat. The single most salient principle that explains the seeming inconsistencies of an authoritarian leader's behavior is that it's all about control. That is, authoritarian leaders of groups called "cults" like what they control and don't like what they likely cannot control. So people that the leader thinks are problematic and/or difficult to control may be

Neo, I am very sorry for the children that were raised in destructive cults. You are right they have no choice and this is a terrible thing. But there is such a thing as coercive persuasion and influence used to gain undue influence over people. The leadership, which knowingly used such techniques to break down the critical thinking of members did that. Blaming the victims of such coerc

Yes. The problem with not taking mental health seriously enough is that various gurus push people through intense meditation, exercises, cathartic confessions, etc. to a breaking point. And gurus are not typically licensed mental health professionals. So when they have seminars or sessions they have no meaningful education to inform them when someone is too fragile psychologically and when the

Horowitz: Watching the video was interesting. Mooji reminds me of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. Almost like Moo is copying the presentation style of Rajneesh. But of course Rajneesh was better at being a "guru" and far more notable. Historically Rajneesh was known to have exploited his devotees. For example he owned 90 Rolls Royces and there were allegations of sexual misconduct.

Wow. Moo must be in a bad mood. We have three apologists attempting to dominate this thead and IMO push people off topic and/or discourage them from posting. All three have failed to answer any questions meaningfully, skirted issues or engaged in other obfuscation. No peers? Sounds like the group is run like a dictatorship. It also probably has corporate bylaws and a board. My guess is that Moo runs that too without any meaningful accountability. Again, someone that becomes an object of worship who is also a dictator would fit the criteria associated with a destructive cult.

It's very meaningful to read the research and literature describing how an array of cults control and manipulate people. How they control information, manipulate and manage social interaction and the environment. They create a kind of bubble. To burst that bubble it usually takes something fairly drastic to happen within it that somehow shocks the member and leads to a crack in their p
