I also remember the first church summer camp I went to. In the afternoons, kids were swimming in the pool. Brother Stevens was chasing girls around and throwing them in the pool. He was growling and trying to scare these teenagers in bikinis. It seemed very strange to me, and I stayed away.

These posts from Richard M., Marilyn Hargrave's first husband, and her cousin, fromsouthchicago, are very triggering. As a young teen in the Valley church, I had no idea about JRS' philandering. I now believe that he had affairs with Marilyn and many others. I thought he was an old man, and took his words at face value. My first experience with his inappropriate attention was a slap on

There's a lot pain and a lot of power in these posts about becoming free after years of submitting to "authority". As a teenager in The Walk, I was told stories about the death and destruction that awaited those who rebelled. If God didn't kill you in a fiery crash, you faced a failed, miserable life of knowing that you were not fit for the kingdom of their god. You would los

An interesting post regarding the shepherding requirements in TLWF. People were hurt. JRS and G&M were culpable. They knew of situations and wrongdoing. They did not report it to the proper authorities and even participated in cover ups. Sad re-posts about the San Diego TLWF church by paleface and thisweek. It was all about control. That's one thing all the churches had in common, but some were worse than others. : ( Welcome, Leahsmiles. I was part of TLWF from the late sixties until about ten years ago. I doubt that our paths crossed, but I had lots of experience with that "emotional, mental, and spiritual abuse&qu

I remember a restricted tape played in a South Gate service...JRS said he realized he was looking into the eyes of the Kahuna. Yeah, it was most likely one of Marilyn's numerous snits. Sigh... P.S. Looking back, he sounded drunk...kind of like how he sounded in The Sleeping Prophecies...
