Great to hear from you again dbc! I didn't know that about the Iowa Church. Rebels without a Claus. changedagain I think you meant to say I "didn't" believe they were Christ? "BTW, I have to admit that I was never able to gaze into another person's eyes and sing to them as though they were Christ in the flesh. I think the root of the problem was that

I appreciate Reepicheep's and Larry's insights about celebrating Christmas. It's sad neither of you were a voting member on the LW Committee to Save Christmas. Oops! What was I thinking? There never were any committees and no one was ever allowed to vote on ANYTHING.

Invisble said JRS didn't require anyone to stop celebrating Christmas. Yet most of us felt compelled to give up Christmas. Was that a cult dynamic? I think what I have learned in the forum about what happens in cults as they grow and as the Walk grew particularly among young people, so does the influence (power and control) over the members. JRS's charismatic ministry drew in people so

I love lights and stuff. I didn't know how to tell my parents about the Walk's Christmas conspiracy. I told my Mom I did not want to go to the Christmas party because it wouldn't please God. She got angry. My family did not see these pagan holidays as pagan.

Great post Reepicheep. I'm glad you decided to jump in and share your experience. Extracting oneself from the LW really can be complicated, but the freedom is well worth it. Please feel free to chime in with your insights at anytime.

Welcome to the message board Tknc. I think there's a lot to be learned from the children who were born into the Walk. Thank you for sharing your story. IMO much of what JRS taught was classic Pentecostalism and an openness to the continuation of the gifts. But then there was that continuing revelation thing JRS said he walked in--that it was equal to scripture. And it seems most who were par

I appreciate reading how Larry Bobo has made sense of his experience in the LW cult on what could have been for him a life shattering experience. His reflections show me how each persons journey after exiting is uniquely personal. I'm still unable to join much of anything and others like Larry can join a mainstream church. But I think Larry, many in the forum, and I share the same view that

To NickleandDime's comment about the hoagies and CA's comment about the restricted tapes, I recall a number of church members promoting healthy eating. I heard that in a restricted tape, JRS said the Sons of God would be able to eat nails. Spooky.

Remember singing "How Great is our God," over and over during worship? The following link is about how the song writer is caught up in a cult.... "How one of the world's most beloved worship songs reportedly helped fuel spiritual abuse."
