While were talking about sexism, I'd like to mention the "kill the male spirit" policy that Marilynn started up in the mid 90's. This is where the wife would be set in as the head of the family and the husband had to submit to her as "christ in the flesh". This was done with couples where the wife was more loyal to G&M than the husband.

I can remember being in the LW as a member and hearing it said that some people called the LW a "cult". I can recall the general response being "Oh they just don't understand us", or "it's just the religious world persecuting the true way". And people would say "Look, Gary and Marilyn are hanging out with Bishop Key and Mahesh Chavda. We must be

That is rich, Apostle Dog. The two phases of the walk: Walk 1 under JRS and Walk 2 (the sequel) under Gary and Marilyn. So which one do you think is the most cultish? Walk1 or Walk2 ? Each phase can be scrutinized with the cult checklist that Rick Ross has posted on this forum and referred us to. I think Walk2 is more cultish. For one thing: JRS allowed himself to be exalted. But Ma

I’ve been thinking about the word “selfish” and how it is used in the LW to manipulate people. If a person is not being submissive, a subtle way to make them feel guilty about it is to call them “selfish”. For example: “Your being selfish because you want to go to the movies instead of working at the church tonight.” It is a way to cut down a person who has a will or a desire to do anything

The practice of replacing a mature pastor with a new a##-kissing young adult probably originated more with Marilyn than JRS. The practice certainly continues on to this very day. Most of the old guard are gone now. Forced into retirement.

AD, I agree. Something went off the track when JRS started to let the congregations exhault him like that. He should have stopped them. I guess it was just too seductive for him.

An ex-LW person told me this recently. I find it true. There are three kinds of people in a cult: 1. Those that mix up the poison with the Kool-Aide and serve it. 2. Those that obediently line up and drink the Kool-Aide 3. Those that see what's going down. So they run off and hide in the jungle.

Regarding the shuting down of churches and the liquidation of assets. The local elders and people who gave the most and sacrificed the most to pay down and payoff mortgages were not consulted. This decision seems to have resided with G&M. And the funds appear to transfer to a different LW corporation. But one with "Apostolic Fathering Minestry" oversite. Which means the funds we

Very interesting discussion here. For me, it's more about forgiving myself for being such an idiot to join and be a part of the Living Word. What was I thinking?

Lurkers. I'm sure LW folks read and report to G&M if anything offensive comes up about the personalities of their inner circle.

I was in a vintage clothing store last week. I saw a used hat that might fit me. I tried it on. Before I put it on my head, I blessed it with my hands. After I took it off, I did a quick pass over my head with a hand to remove any oppression that might of transfered from the hat to my spirit. Then I stopped and laughed in disgust. Old habits die slow.

Excellent point about John not being mainstream. I recall hearing how his congregations would completely turn over in the early days of Grace Chapel. He couldn't hold a congregation together. They would flee. I think there was a good reason for that. It wasn't until the late 60's that things took hold. As a group of "Jesus freak" hippies discovered John. I'm b

Well another gala 4th of July show was presented at Shiloh. It is part of Shiloh's campaign to reach out to the community and say "Hey everybody, come see our fireworks show and behold how normal we are". It really is a fantastic event. I wonder what it costs and who pays for it? I'm sure it's part of that "blank check" spending account that is given to Rick

For that matter, throw away your Bibles and only drink from the LW fountain. As they tell the young adults at Shiloh every summer, everything you need is in the current LW literature, and maybe JRS's words as well. I've heard kids being told to stop reading the Bible. And to stop worshipping the "God in the sky". They are told their relationship with God is now to com

I know I probably said this already, but a big “ah-ha” moment for me was when I heard a teaching by Gary where he said “God gave you a free will. He will never cross your will”. And I started to think about it. “Gosh, God won’t cross my will, but my shepherds and DR sure will and take great delight in doing it, too”. Things started to look a whole lot different after I processed that. :

Poliscigrad - Perhaps it isn’t so much the “sins of the father” as much as it is the sperm of the father. : ) Psychologists talk about nature versus nurture. For example, a child is born autistic. His environment does not make him autistic. But I have to believe the environment can help or hinder the situation. You might not have had much choice here. It’s just how the DNA turned out. J

I think it is interesting that you mention getting professional help, poliscigrad. I too have been receiving professional help from a MFT therapist. I found someone with cult experience. It has been very beneficial in undoing the mind-f$*K I had done to me while in the fellowship. I don't think we realize how broken we got while being in the LW fellowship. One of the big ones for me i
