Dear Worried Mom, There is a pastor of a church in Wells who has posted on this thread. You might want to contact him. My husband and I were in a similar cult and I realize how hard it is for family and friends to understand the intense influence and control that these groups have on their members. One of the best things you can do is educate yourself on cult dynamics. There are a lot of good

JR, the sad thing about it is there are thousands of small pseudo-Christian groups like YMBBA all over the US. Texas draws more than its share because it is located in the Bible belt. My husband and I co-facilitate a support group for former members of cultic/spiritually abusive groups. It meets monthly and there is no charge to come.

I am confused. We are still talking about YMBBA Ministries, right? Do the group members live in different towns or did the Arlington group move to Wells, TX. Justin07, why was your son in Wisconsin? Do you know where he is now?

Thank you for this information. I have heard that YMBBA is also called "Church of Arlington". Did you son ever refer to the group with that name? My husband and I work with survivors of cultic/spiritually abusive cults. We have been out of a pseudo-Christian cult for over ten years and host a monthly support group in the Dallas metroplex. When your son leaves this group, please tell

Selah, you are so right about Tim having false humility- it is a way to control and manipulate. My former cult leader was master at this technique. And the game is to separate people from families and friends and have followers look to their leader for the answers to life. The cult leader is right up there with God so he can speak for God and further control you.

Hi Jason, I also tried to find a publisher, but it is very difficult for a newbie to get a chance with most publishers and the ones who read my manuscript turned it down because of the potential liability. I ended up self-publishing, but had a book designer, professional editor, and graphics person so I thought it turned out pretty well. With the new technology, it is much less expensive to se

Jason, my husband and I were in a pseudo-Christian cult for many years. When we left this cult eleven years ago, we began reading all the cult literature that was available. The whole cult phenomena continues to fascinate and sadden us. Promoting cult awareness and helping former members has become a passion for us. About four years ago, we started a monthly support group for former members and h

Re: cult leaders: "those who believe in their own "shtick" and really think that they are doing the right thing, and those who know that they are full of it, but do not want anybody else to figure it out." Hey, Zeuszor, do you really think that they believe they are doing the right thing - is it self-deception?

My husband and I facilitate a support group for family members, as well as a support group for former cult members. We are former members of a religious cult and have been out for over ten years. The groups are free and meet on the third Saturday of the month. Family group is 2-3 pm and ex-cult members group is 3-5. Our group is in the Dallas area. One of the original members of our group re

Agape and ReadtheBook: This is LLG's post from Sept 10. In my opinion, she makes excellent points on how Trumpet Call of God meets the criterion for a cult. Take the time to read it and then tell us again why YOU don't think it's a cult. list of Robert Jay Lifton's 8 Point Model of Thought Reform: 1. ENVIRONMENT CONTROL.
