I am a facilitator of TW and thinking about launching a website to offer my service to those who may want to experience TW. I have gotten as far as reading about page 9 of the 77 on this thread. So far, what I can gleam as the main message from this thread are these two points: 1. People who have a need should seek help from a licensed therapist. BK isn't a licensed therapist.

A Wee Question: Oprah promotes Eckhart Tolle. But...promoting someone is different from hiring someone. But...would Oprah HIRE an administrative assistant with the unverifiable life background that Tolle gives? Or, for that matter, BK? ------------------------------------------------ A correspondant who responded to misgivings about Oprahs' speech to the 2008 graduating clas

Another gentle reminder from Professor Dutch: Freedom of Speech 'The Constitution gives you the right to free speech. It gives your critics the right to rebut your claims or ignore you. 'As the late Hubert Humphrey once observed during the Sixties: "The right to free speech does not imply the right to be taken seriously. That depends on what is said." 'N

It is easy, very easy to start a thread on a new topic. Just look for the 'new topic button' -- and use it. If that new topic button is not visible, you may need to update to a new browser. And..here is a test to see whether a logical discussion is even possible between two parties. It is from Professor Steve Dutch's website. "A Note to Visitors: I will resp

The Byron Katie website is like a huge spider-web, with lots of sticky trapdoors. Dozens and dozens of ways in, video, text, audio, live Hotlines, worksheets, message boards, everything. Its all designed very carefully to appeal to different people in different ways, and groom and lure them into more books, audio, video, and ultimately the LGAT Katie School, and then into the 100 Day trainings,

Here's the story. The comments are interesting. Comments: Comments I went to the graduation, it was a lot of fun. The most boring part was Oprah's speech. I was all about her and Tolle. She even gave all the students the book he wrote. They were expecting a car... hahaha!!!. I wonder what the faculty thought about her attack on science and physics in particular.

I cant recall the names at the moment, but picked up a New Age free magazine the other day. At least one female hypnotherapist was in there and her hair, its color, her make up, eyes, smile and dress style made her look like a BK-clone. Start looking at pictures of various new entrepreneuses on the scene and see if any are similar in appearance to BK. It might be amusing if this turns out t

Oh right, there was that scary business about targeting children. I can really freak myself out about this BK stuff, so I need to remember that just as I woke up and did an internet search for critiques of Byron Katie, so can others. Also, children tend to have good b.s. detectors, so there's that going for them. Plus how many of them will rebel against continually doing the work?! H

Oh and by the way it says in the interview that her new book is targeted towards children: Byron Katie: "Yea. Parenting and children. I'm considering calling it Child's Play." [ ooh!s ] Doing 'turnarounds' on children at a crucial time in their development when their identities are still fluid, being formed. This is quite a scary thought.

QuoteHope I don't think they really know the depth of the manipulation and deception these authors and LGAT people are pulling. Hope, I agree that sometimes even reputable counselors don't know enough about these groups and the serious implications of promoting them. At other times as we have seen on this thread they are in fact participants and may even be looking for ways to in

I call it "cognitive therapy in disguise" to help you love you and accept what is... Loving What Is: Four questions that can change your life by Byron Katie. This is what the first psychologist I went to said about BK's book, and this is also part of a review on a reading list on her website. Now, she seemed like a perfectly normal, well-educated, PhD, and she specializes in

What a weasel! The weasel and the cockroach, quite a pair... I really feel sickened by this stuff, when I think back to how trusting and gullible I was, and I'll bet there are quite a lot of people like me out there. I do hope some of the Oprah people will find their way here after the radio show, and hopefully will be open enough to take in the criticisms of BK (and Tolle).

It does appear that Dr. David Wise is in a business relationship with Byron Katie. Where is the full-disclosure posted? He gives her an open reference on this webpage. So people come to them with pelvic pain, and get cross-referred to Byron Katie 9-Day and 100-Day LGAT's? He calls The Work the best cognitive therapy, when its not listed as cognitive therapy, and has never been tested?

I do agree that it would be great if more therapists spoke out, but very few do. But the good ones do say very clearly, for example, that if they have not trained with the Beck Institute and have an actual certification from them, then you have no idea of what you are getting. (there are a few other streams of CT though, but the Beck variety is the most tested). Real Cognitive Behavioral Th

Quotequestion ladyI am frustrated and dismayed by the silence of good therapists on this issue. They need not specify any particular system in order to warn against harmful distortions of their work. In the widest sense I suppose, "The Work" could fall under the category of "cognitive therapy" when done with someone with a license, in much the same way that a lobotomy is o

A good question, question lady. I will see if I can find out anything about it. Whilst reading Burns' "Feeling Good" book, I have been wondering if BK has "borrowed" from it, as Burns talks a lot about one's thoughts causing problems (aka suffering). I think the book originally came out in 1980, some years before the cockroach made its debut.

Yes, (going back to the discussion of Gurumayi's disappearance) and what about when the Guru unexpectedly and suddenly dies? There was no instruction left regarding who should be the successor or any other instructions indicating how the Group should proceed in the event of our Guru's death. I now know of at least two people who took their lives in the wake of his passing. Some
