Someone who tried to break big in the Self Help industry found she could not cope with the stress. Her mistake was: she didn't have the nerve to acquire an entourage of helpers. Read here and you will get the inside scoop on the real "Secret" behind Tolle, Byron Katie, Gangaji, Mooji and -- yes. Deepak Chopra. He worries about looking fat when he makes public ap

One woman who was into Byron Katie tried to recruit via a 12 Step group I attended. She pounced on me right when I was shaken after I confided some painful information. Luckily I already know about Cockroach Lady and her hubby, so I refused her offer. I am now sorry I did not reprimand her. Byron Katie Another member of that same meeting did attend a Katydid intro, but had

Of course, VERBALLY they say the opposite to the contract. So a fun thing to do, is to turn the tables. Write down what they say, and cross out the other parts of the contract. Have them sit down, and explain every clause in the c

Dialogue works equally well, if not better for manipulation, but the technique employed is certainly different. And of course, the feedback is an essential manipulation tool.

Traumatic Abuse in Cults: A Psychoanalytic Perspective Small excerpt QuoteIn this volume, Traumatic Narcissism: Relational Systems of Subjugation, Daniel Shaw presents a way of understanding the traumatic impact of narcissism as it is engendered developmentally, and as it is enacted relationally. Focusing on the dynamics of narcissism in interpersonal relations, Shaw describes the relati

Friends, some time ago, a member named The Anticult offered lessons on how to identify use of conversational trance induction. Much of The Anticult's contributions took place in discussion threads discussing Byron Katie. That discussion attracted a large number of disruptors. Wonder why? Good analogy, Corboy, the daisy. She certainly does cast herself in the best possible light. But all of "the work" is still based on your being honest with yourself--continually (not easy). Figuring out what the truth of your situation is, wanting to make the right decisions, knowing what those are. There are so many personal variables. So it seems like she's made a win-win s

Here is an analogy. Imagine the Four Questions as a daisy flower. Put a daisy in a gold and diamond studded vase, with expert lighting. Photographs of that daisy, enhanced by all the props, will make that flower seem special. Photograph at that same flower at noon blooming among thousands like it in some vacant lot, with a few crumpled beer cans alongside. Photos of a daisy in

Yeah. Sounds pretty hypocritical to me if they are charging that much money but you do have a point that if someone could do that they would want to share it. It's just all the evidence I've seen is against it working.

YeleneJBean "If you could really do that with your mind why write all the books and do all the business deals. Why not just sit at home and manifest what you want :)" I guess under the guise of helping others. But if they can't actually do it themselves, it is hypocritical. To give them the benefit of the doubt, perhaps they do want to help people, but then it turns into a hug

b.f.m.: Speaking as someone who has appeared on Oprah twice, back in early days 1989 and 1992, before she got into all the mumbo jumbo and self-help gurus, the fact that Katie appeared on the show means nothing. Oprah has featured and promoted Dr. Oz, who appeared before congress and was berated for his quackery and false health claims. Also, Oprah featured James Arthur Ray on her "

I also don't subscribe to the idea that just because you think something, it makes it true. Or that not thinking it makes your suffering go away. That just sounds to me like more positive thinking hype veiled under another cloak.

Byron Katie has been on Oprah - and seems to be even partnered with her, that must say something about her caliber. Correct if I am wrong....but I think that Oprah is fairly selective about who she teams up with. She probably has an entire research department that vets people.

I've just been newly introduced to Byron Katie by a friend. Her idea seems good about not believing everything your mind brings up (we all know how our minds can change) but I'm not sure what else she teaches and don't want to get sucked in if it's just a huge money-making operation. Also, I don't really know what's behind her philosophy. Reading these posts is h

My sense is that both of these people started with something legitimate, but have gotten swept up in the money game. When it comes to accusations of being cults, there's always a question as to how much of it is coming from the leader, how much from the organizers of their groups, and how much from obsessive followers. Katie and Tolle have both attracted people with obsessive qualities (they

Giving away a scholarship in public is one of BK's favorite tricks. It costs her nothing, and you still have to pay for the accommodation in a luxureous hotel. The next step is the Turnaround house ($ 20.000) for one month and then the certification program, which costs at least $ 40.000, if you add up all the mandatory programs you need to attend. So the work is free? I hardly think so.

Very good advice to immediately and permanently stop any communication with anyone who practices overt NLP-Hypnosis for profit.
