To Anticult, very powerful mind control symbolism, don't you think?

With the recent and unanticipated demise of the North Korean "Dear Leader" I began to wonder about Ikea's last days. No doubt the Seikyo Shimbun (Seikyo times) will be fillied with pictures of WD members weeping and articles about how his "legendary and valiant efforts to advance Kosen Rufu" must be continued. Like Kim Jong Il, does Ikea have a son that can lay claim to the throne when he passes from our midst? Someone who can "reawaken the flames of passion for a new era of true buddhism" (i.e. restart the money generation engine).

Wakatta1.....Senor Ikeda does have a son, Hiromasa Ikeda, I believe is the name, who has been appearing more as a speaker/figurehead---so far, he does not seem to carry the Charisma that has brought his father to this point.

In other words, he can't create the Sensei Quiver.

He is (or his disciples are) still allowing himself to be called World Poet Laureate - check out the banner on the podium in the photo.

Walt Whitman Birthplace award

If I was a member of Walt Whitman's family I'd be livid about this. Actually, I'm pretty cross anyway at the people who didn't do their research before presenting a cult figurehead with an award - however obscure it may be.

Happy 2012 to everybody!

Question: "World Poet Laureate".....who else has gotten this award? Is there a special committee that bestows this award?

Happy New Year one and all!

Shavoy, no there is no special committee, PI paid for the award from an obscure and unethical publishing house in India. I'll paste below some my original rant about World Poet Laureate that I posted on 7th September this year. Tsukimoto and others had some interesting things to say about it back then.

Quote: ".....here is some research I did on the title "World Poet Laureate:

I googled 'World Poet Laureate' and found that 'Ikeda was honoured with the award of World Poet Laureate by the World Poetry Society Intercontinental in the year 1995'. So I googled World Poetry Society Intercontinental.

It was difficult to find much but I eventually found this at poetryworldpublications.weebly.com which says Poetry World Publications are the publication division of World Poetry Society Intercontinental, 'Under the patronage of DR DAISAKU IKEDA, President SGI, Tokyo, Japan'.

So he (or we) bought the company and awarded himself the laureate. Since this page also tells us that the founder of WPSI was Krishna Srinivas (who he?) I found the following user page for him on Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Dr.Krishnasrinivas . This article is commented for deletion as it has absolutely no verifiable references in it.

Also an author called Andreas Schroeder has an amusing description of his interactions with WPSI in an interview at
Interview
In a reply to the interviewer's question:
"5.Have you ever planned a scam before? Or do you want to just for fun?"

Shroeder says:
"Yes, I've not only planned a scam, I actually pulled it off.
There was a literary organization that called itself THE WORLD POETRY SOCIETY
INTERCONTINENTAL. They took advantage of young hopeful writers by offering to
publish their work - but for a considerable fee. They made big claims about how
publication in their anthologies would promote a young writer's career, when in fact
nobody in the writing industry took their publications at all seriously because they'd
publish anyone, as long as the person paid the fees."
.....Schroeder then goes on to describe the details of the scam.

So it looks like the WPSI is an obscure and somewhat dodgy one man band publisher in India, under the PATRONAGE of (ie. paid for by) DR DAISAKU IKEDA, World Poet Laureate, of course. Classy." end quote

@Simplify, thanks for answering...all I can say is, Good Grief! And there is that 'Dr' salutation again...is he really a Dr? Of what?

This whole thing goes in line with receiving that absurd number of honorary doctorates/degrees from obscure universities in struggling countries, who were very happy to receive needed funds, I'm sure, in exchange.

Wait, maybe it is from all the doctorates that he is a 'Dr'!

Pages 314-316 of this thread discussed Ikeda's "World Poet Laureate" award. Simplify also raised a good point about Ikeda's claim that he is "a friend of the Bodleian Library," also on page 315 of this thread:

----------------------------Beginning of quote, Simplify's post, page 315 of this thread-------------------------------------

Oh Oh Oh. I was looking at the list of Literary Awards you copied for us Tsukimoto and saw the

2. Honorable Friend of the Bodleian Library for Life, Bodleian Library, University of Oxford UK 1989

I had to go and investigate this as I studied in the Bodleian Library when I was at Oxford and wondered how on earth Ikeda could be honoured by such an unimpeachable organisation. His honours are mostly from Mickey Mouse organisations that nobody has ever heard of!

It just gets worse and worse. Ikeda has listed this as an 'honour'. As I guessed, this is a lie as it is not an awarded honour. I checked the Bodleian website and we can all be lifetime friends of the library. You pay your subscription and then you get various 'friends' priveleges. For £25 a year you can be a Friend and get all the sorts of benefits and goodies a 'friend' of any institutuion or museum or public gallery gets (access to lectures, newsletters etc.).
Then after that the membership tiers go like this:

Quote:
From the Bodeian Library website

Honourable Friend
£40 per annum
The benefits of individual membership plus two issues per year of The Bodleian Library Record, the Library’s scholarly journal containing articles on literary, historical and bibliographical topics, especially those concerned with the Library’s collections.

Re: Soka Gakkai International -- SGI Ikeda's FAKE TITLES

The SGI Ikeda-comedy act, the hits just keep coming.

Ikeda himself, or his minions, pay off some scammer in India to award him a fake title or World Poet Laureate. Of course, they dreamed that up, as it has the word LAUREATE in it.
To add insult to the bullshit, Ikeda hired some ghostwriters to write the fake bad poetry.
So SGI-Ikeda hires ghostwriters to write the fake bad poetry, then gives some scammer in India some cash to award him another fake title.

Also Ikeda or his minions, pay a few bucks to Bodleian Library for another misleading fake title.
And you can bet that is claimed as a TAX write-off on the SGI books. SGI donations are paying for that, not Ikeda.

Ikeda must have the world record for misleading fake titles. Its like a bad comedy skit about a vain Egomaniac dictator.

Someone should do an experiment.
Set-up some bogus organization, and then send SGI-International a letter, telling them this group has awarded the Rev. Dr. Sir Ikeda some kind of bogus "honor"...with the hint that a donation is needed for it to go through.

Something vague like, the Cooperative Royal Association for Peace.
Run by some guy named Larry out of his closet.
And "award" Ikeda their highest honor, and make Ikeda the honorary distinguished Lifetime Fellow of the Cooperative Royal Association for Peace...C.R.A.P.

How much would Ikeda pay for that?

In succession to an earlier gift of 987 volumes made in 1979, in the period under review two further substantial donations were received: 2,300 volumes in 1988 and 6,700 volumes in 1989. In every case the selection of items for inclusion was made by the Departmental specialist. The President of Soka Gakkai International, Mr Daisaku Ikeda visited the Bodleian in 1989..."
