Could someone get us a URL for the New York Times article?

I hope something is being done.

Posted a 2012 article here

[forum.culteducation.com]

from Minnesota Public Radio, in which a number of persons,
including former IRS employees, were quoted as saying that
the IRS had not examined any religious non profits in
the three years prior.

corboy,

The NYtimes article mentioned above covers many areas of undercover operations so you have to scroll down almost to the end of the article to the paragraph on the IRS.

I believe much of the recent discussion regarding the IRS looking into the political speech of pastors stems from a potential lawsuit. (huffingtonpost.com/2013/08/21 atheists can sue IRS over failure to enforce limits on churches.)

A very outspoken pastor I follow online regarding his insights into Bible prophecy is angry about what is going on with the IRS. He doesn't tell people how to vote but he certainly shares his strong opinions about elected officials. JRS also used to share his strong opinions about elected officials,

I guess it's ok to pray for the downfall (or death) of a candidate, you just can't tell your congregants how to vote.

I would think the death prayer would give a hint to the congregation of what direction the ministry is leaning...

I think there's a strong possibility that the Christmas truck tradition could actually outlast the churches. A bit peculiar...since John seemed repulsed by the celebration of Christmas. Oh well. It's just another one of those apparent contradictions that I can not reconcile with this unrenewed mind of mine! Maybe I should just go along with the flow.
So...what a bright time, it's the right time
To rock the night away!!

I was just reading a comment referencing Einstein’s quote about imagination being better than knowledge. The comment said, “Imaginative consciousness is at a higher frequency than normal consciousness.”

I think the heavens can open to any ‘whosoever’ without the help of JRS, Gary, Marilyn or other so-called “super channel/apostle/prophet/authority/lamp/shepherd.”

It is comforting when we truly understand and get free from the “human road blocks” who were foretold by the Bible (II Thess 2:3-4).

It is our responsibility to keep our channel “free and open.”

Um, whatever ----

It’s “life is a bitch--then you die” versus “faith and imagination.”

Enough babbling -- time for some football.

FCSLC said in part it is comforting when we get free of human road blocks.

From the book Pagan Christanity page 8 (sorry no electronic version):

The NT includes many details about early Christian gatherings which were open and participatory. They did not organize themselves hierarchically. There was no pastoral office and spiritual gifts were employed by each member.

From the book Pagan Christianity page 137 (sorry no electronic version):

Nothing so hinders the fulfillment of God's eternal purpose as does the present-day pastoral role. Why? Because that purpose is centered on making Christ's headship visibly manifested in the church through the free, open, mutually participatory, every member functioning of the body. As long as the pastoral office is present in a particular church, that church will have a slim chance of witnessing such a "glorious thing."

Was John Robert Stevens a member of the John Birch Society?

Much love and healing to you all for this Christmas. Thank you all for all the input, ideas and sanity checks this last year. I've got most of the LW dust shaken off of me. : )
