The saddest part of all these incidents is they are usually accompanied with scriptural justifications no matter how convoluted.

We certainly witnessed many tragedies in TLW that were somehow supported by chapter and verse, only to stand in stark contrast to simple sermons of LOVE delivered to the pedestrian class.

There were no instructions to build another organization to subvert the message and oppress the people.

HEAVEN can only shed a tear . . .

But others aren’t so sure that pastors who engage in sexual relations with congregants should ever be given a second chance.

“When a pastor has committed clergy sexual misconduct, that pastor and the congregation should remove a consideration of restoration to the pulpit, or any position of power, entirely,” said Wade Mullen, assistant professor and director of the Master of Divinity program at Capital Seminary Graduate School, a division of Lancaster Bible College.

Mullen, who studied the ways evangelical organizations manage the aftermath of sexual misconduct, said returning a pastor to the pulpit after an affair with a congregant minimizes the gravity of the abuse and puts other people in harm’s way.

And then there are the invalid excuses for human beings "clergy" who abuse children. They should be locked up, not returned to the entitled limelight again and again.

With these safeguards in place, The Walk would have been done before it even started.

Also of note from the above article, Tullian Tchividjian, the Billy Graham grandson who has engaged in clergy abuse, was fired "from an administrative job at Willow Creek Presbyterian Church in Winter Springs, Florida, after leaders there became aware of another, earlier sexual tryst" [with a member of the congregation].

Now, saying he is rehabilitated, the 47-year-old Tchividjian has started a new, nondenominational church called The Sanctuary that meets each Sunday at the Hilton Garden Inn in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

Sound familiar? Think back to the founding of Grace Chapel, South Gate.

Meanwhile, Tullian Tchividjian's brother, Boz, is a law professor and clergy abuse expert...

Quote

Boz Tchividjian has said clergy who have abused congregants should not be tolerated; in a recent tweet he said there should be no exceptions on this behavior, which he described as dehumanizing:

Adult clergy abuse is when a ministry leader uses his position to identify, groom, and engage in “consensual” sexual contact with someone in his congregation or under his influence. There are no exceptions to this kind of dehumanizing objectification, exploitation and betrayal.

Those concerned with Tchividjian’s past also point out that The Sanctuary, as an independent church, has no denominational policies and procedures to keep him accountable in the future. “It’s basically up to the leadership” of the Palm Beach congregation, Fortune said.

The group founded by Boz Tchividjian is [www.netgrace.org]

[www.netgrace.org] looks like a great organization.

How ironic is it that one grandson of Billy Graham (Boz) focuses his efforts to protect the sheep from the other grandson (Tullian).

Just one of the myriad of contradictions than run rampant throughout Christianity.

I think by now most of us have come to realize what an ill-conceived organization The Walk/TLW was from the outset, with no accountability whatsoever for leadership behavior, from JRS all the way through the G&M era.

It is no wonder that JRS was shown the door regarding many of his previous church involvements, wanting instead to be accountable only to himself, which as we now know, was a recipe for disaster.

I am unable to supply the actual chapter and verse for this scenario, other than 'beware of wolves in sheep's clothing'.

Yes--which is why the reconciliation before full accountability is a non-starter. It minimizes the magnitude of abuse by former church leaders, paving the way for this type of lawless behavior to continue in a different setting--perhaps involving the same people. The emphasis now should not be on victims being "forgiving," but on ex-TLWF leaders being forthright about the way they have violated the trust of those under their charge, causing harm.

"...reconciliation before full accountability is a non-starter."

Unfortunately, reconciliation is going to be a casualty of hypocrisy and hubris.

No time do I remember any upper tier leader in TLW ever bring themselves to crocodile tears over any of the egregious violations perpetrated upon the flock. Worse still, after the violations, they were compounded by ostracization and victimization, the foundational modus operandi of TLW.

Our HAPPINESS should definitely not depend upon any of Gary's hench wo/men 'stumbling' into contrition any time soon.

Agree and agree.

Interesting quote from this website:

[cryingoutforjustice.blog]

Abusers demand forgiveness and reconciliation. Victims don’t. Genuinely repentant people don’t. In other words, the person who insists that people maintain a relationship with him is the guilty party. He is the abuser. When victims of abuse come to understand what is happening to them, they do not plead with their abuser to “please, please, please don’t leave.” But abusers do. They demand it. They even get angry when the victim keeps her distance.
