I think that Rick's book is very helpful to those seeking to understand more about different cultic groups. I especially liked how he organized it - chapter on the cultic group followed by chapter on intervention method/techniques.

If anyone is interested in attending a support group for former members of cults or spiritually abusive groups, please contact me. My husband, Doug Duncan, and I have been facilitating a support group for five years. My husband and I are both mental health professionals, but the group is not a therapy group, but rather a peer support group (we are both former members of a cult, Trinity Foundation

I posted about OJP (Operation Jesus Pictures) last May, but the message thread was lost with the migration to the new website. Anyone have information? Is there anyone out there who have been a part of the group? Thanks!

Is anyone familiar with the "Upper Room"? Recently received message from a mother whose son is attending. I haven't been able to find out much about them except from their website.

Ronald Enroth, in Recovering from Churches that Abuse, identifies 11 questions to help discern if your church is an abusive or healthy church (p.13-16). 1. Does a member’s personality generally become stronger, happier, more confident as a result of contact with the group? 2. Do members of the group seek to strengthen their family commitments? 3. Does the group encourage independent think

It's a shame that the previous posts dating back three or so years ago are unavailable. There was a lot of good information and posts from family members who have written about how their adult children are now estranged from them because of the "Church of Wells." I researched it several years ago and in my opinion, it met the criteria for a thought reform environment. Maybe

Dear Worried Mom, There is a pastor of a church in Wells who has posted on this thread. You might want to contact him. My husband and I were in a similar cult and I realize how hard it is for family and friends to understand the intense influence and control that these groups have on their members. One of the best things you can do is educate yourself on cult dynamics. There are a lot of good

JR, the sad thing about it is there are thousands of small pseudo-Christian groups like YMBBA all over the US. Texas draws more than its share because it is located in the Bible belt. My husband and I co-facilitate a support group for former members of cultic/spiritually abusive groups. It meets monthly and there is no charge to come.
