Just an update: I had written to my local Attorney General concerning Landmark. It took about six weeks before I received a reply (they suggest a ten day turn-around.) The reply was a form letter saying that they had read my letter with interest and decided to file it away. IF enough complaints are generated, they will have mine on file for reference. In other words, they're not going

I mentioned that my wife was attending Landmark to a friend at work this morning. She is the first person I've met who not only had heard the name in passing conversation, but had a strong perception of them as being cult-like. It was gratifying to meet someone who knew what I was talking about. It also made me wonder: if this perception readily exists in society how come our government d

Thanks for all of the replies. I tried to respond to the first few last night, but as is my typical luck, I didn't bother to save what I wrote before posting and "poof" it was gone. :) You've all provided some wonderful insights, and I'm going to try to answer as many of your responses as I can. I have tried asking her to clarify just how LE has helped her. Her on

My wife suddenly renewed her interest in Landmark over the weekend, and has decided to go back to the weekly sessions post-Forum. After having read all of the LGAT material I could throw at her, testimonials from former LE participants, and media reports, she's dismissed them all. Her reasoning? She feels that she has obtained positive tools to help her with her life. She has dismissed

QuoteClausDIaThank corboy and the others for your replies. I am still in contact with a few people from LE, but I am increasingly cynical, tell them what I think about enrollment conversations ... and that LE is cult-like because inside LE they think they are better than other people ... enlighted ... That makes sense. Heck, it's one of LE's best tactics for defeating the negative

My wife was very skeptical about the Forum for the first two days. So much so that I was comfortable with her continuing to go. She complained about times when she felt the group leader had been inappropriate or simply said things that she felt were untrue. I hadn't been to this site yet, and only had nagging doubts that what she had explained to me about Landmark didn't "feel r

As I said, I've been forwarding your posts on to my wife. She's read them all and seems genuinely interested. She has a question for you though, Nettie. She wants to know, "can you ask nettie why she quit – what happened to her? “It’s harmful for me” – does not explain how it’s harmful … please ? Thanks." I don't want to interupt your writing process, and if you&#

Thank you for your posts, Nettie. I find your entries very interesting, and I'm looking forward to reading more. Just so you know, I'm sending these on to my wife whose attending follow-up meetings and doing the group-conference calls post-Forum. She had originally signed up to attend the Advanced Class, but had lately been leaning towards quitting Landmark. After attending her meet

I think that it's important that much of what they say be valid. Like any great con, you have to wrap it in a cloak of believability in order to get past people's defenses. You have to give people enough reality to pacify their BS detectors so that the lies can slip through. Landmark has obviously spent a lot of effort digging up and integrating the legitimate thoughts and ideas of

All I can tell you, tywebb, is to get as many friends and family involved as possible. It wasn't me alone who turned things around. It was the concerned words of her family, friends, and colleagues. She simply couldn't ignore the overwhelming number of peers and relatives all giving her the same warnings. Make sure that those involved are informed, too. I sought out these people an

My wife has lately been rethinking her decision to attend LE's advanced class. The one hang-up seems to be the non-refundable $100.00 deposit she was whisked into giving. Nevermind that it was given because LE offered a limited time opportunity to reduce the cost of the class. It gets better, though. When our home phone rang this evening, she told me to say that she wasn't home if

QuoterrmoderatorAnother way to go is to compose your entry offline and then cut and paste it in--if it is that long. If an entry is somehow in violation of the agreed upon rules it may not be approved, but that is rare. I know. I did something similar afterword when I retyped the original reply. Just had to vent a bit after having all my effort go "poof!" :?

Quotemidonov123??? Why would anyone pay thousands of $$$ to see a Monty Python video??? I really don't get It! Is that all they've got, Emptiness? Surely there must be some secret that is being kept ... or else why is there an endless number of advanced seminars? Where does it all lead to? Selling more "empty and meaningless" seminars? C'mon, this is really simp

As to warning people outside of a Landmark Forum - I'd go for it. The majority of the attendees haven't been programmed yet, and are likely to be skeptical. I know my wife was for the first two days. Someone (or a group) showing up to hand out fliers or simply shout a warning would undoubtedly have had an impact. At the very least, it would've helped them to re-engage their cri

I contacted my local DA about the one nearest me. He suggested that the appropriate agencies to handle complaints about a corporation acting in this way were the Attorney General's office and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC.) It certainly can't hurt if people contact their local media. If enough buzz gets generated, the media will have their interest piqued. If they were made aw

We all know that Landmark likes to make up it's own vocabulary. Here in the real world things are a little different. If Landmark was an educational institution it would be a scholarship. Since Landmark is a corporation the apropriate word for it is actually "discount." My wife was offered a discount as enticement to sign up for the Advanced Class.

I hadn't heard of it before it was suggested to her by a colleague. Her colleague hadn't taken it herself, but had it recommended to her by a friend. I've only met one other person who had heard of Landmark. He had a generally positive opinion of it based on a couple of friends who were members. Despite their recommendations and invitations, he remained skeptical and wasn'

It's frustrating to type out a message or reply, hit the submit button, and instead of seeing your message posted you're taken to the log in screen - your message totally erased. Also, I'd like to suggest the addition of a general forum, or perhaps one for questions such as this.

A couple notes here. 1.) Her Christmas holiday will be spent overseas, so there won't be any way for Landmark to contact her doing that 2 week stint. 2.) My wife has no idea that I'm in contact with her family overseas. I needn't have been, actually. Her phone calls to them since taking the course made them concerned on their own. When I finally contacted them, they stated t

Just a small update. My wife and I went out to dinner with a friend of hers last night. I didn't really know the guy, but my wife has been friends with him for sometime and regards him as a very intelligent person. Landmark eventually came up in the conversation, and after hearing her description and my own concerns, he started asking questions of his own. In the end, despite her best at

Thanks Jeannie, I love to hear that. My wife was just like you, skeptical for the first two days, but she decided to ride it out and go the third day. Its obvious from the huge turn-around she had that the third day is when they really hit you. The first two days are just spent worming their way into your head. I'm glad that you had the sense to get out while you were ahead, and best o

I've now spent a couple hours looking for the study conducted by Daniel Yankelovich that Landmark references and quotes in their brochures and online. Everything circles right back to Landmark's own website. What Landmark provides at their website, a trend with them, is just an excerpt from that study. You know, the part that makes them sound good. Looking at DYG, Inc. the company

QuotelightwolfEther Dragon, That brings up a last point -- I would try to persuade her from signing up for more courses -- encourage her to take a break, don't go so fast, etc. While the "high" is working against you right now, the best thing going for you is that she is a "new inductee", and isn't as invested as many get. Blessings . . . -lightwolf Than

Why isn't the federal or state government more active in regards to Landmark (and others?) Landmark seems to be well documented as using cult-like behavior modification, with great numbers of victims, family, and friends willing to testify as such. Why isn't there anything from the government?

I relentlessly debated and presented facts to her this evening. It was the culmination of numerous e-mails laiden with articles, reports, and testimonies from former Landmark members - all agreeing that it is an LGAT/cult. She dismissed it all. She had no answer for why they edit negative articles to sound positive on their website. She had no answer for why government bodies, institutes such

My wife is a new inductee into Landmark. I didn't realize what was going on until she came home after the third night of the Forum. The first two nights she came home skeptical of the exercises and lessons being taught. The third night she was bouncing and bubbly - completely estatic about her new discovery. She was also crazy about getting me to take the course. I was constantly hear
