Yep "Anticult", the photo of Tolle kind of creeped me out, and then I remembered something about a group in Richmond, BC (an hour's drive from where I live), who were practicing the same kind of rubbish as The Secret and Landmark, taking thousands and thousands of $$ from people. But I wonder if he is just one of the graduates of places like Landmark, Insignt etc. They have to ke

The promo for the ET-Oprah "course" tells people to read the book, and "it's ok if you don't understand it all", they will explain it to you later. That is a classic cultish technique. Below is an "excerpt" in a teaser for the course, to get you to buy the book, and sign-up to Oprah's World. (They still have not stated whether or not it is free

Oprah is starting an entire online "course" with ET Eckhart Tolle. It looks to be 10 weeks long, and starts next month, or something. She is promoting the hell out of this thing. Her catch-line is GET READY TO BE AWAKENED. That is a line from hypnosis. Of course, the irony is that ET is the opposite if getting awakened, its putting your mind to sleep. I have heard some specula

when I heard that Oprah was pushing this Tolle guy I immediately thought back to that the big blooper she made with that young fellow who wrote a book about being addicted to drugs, and he turned out to be a big liar...Oprah ended up with egg on her face. The same might happen again; i think her staff are not doing their background checks on some of these people. I also think, (in my not so

Hi Coz, when I heard Oprah sending out a "shout-out" for people to jump on the band-wagon for this new "movement" and I heard the name "Eckhart" my red flags started waving, bells went off in my head, so I immediately "goggled" his name...I see he is living in BC (help!)... ..then yesterday a friend of my sister phoned me and was raving on about his boo

Now she is going to promote another one to her legions of followers. Oprah is now pushing Eckhart Tolle. One wonders does Oprah take any time at all to THINK about this stuff, or is it that it just sounds good? Why does s

the article about the little girl was a joke. seriously, i actually thought it was a parody of that wide-eyed, 1930's style, "reefer madness"-type paranoia. "eckhart tolle is killing our children!!" To date around 4 million people have read the power of now and one little girl goes out in the woods and gets killed and it's because of the book?? peopl

i know i'm a little late to the party here, but... its amusing to watch the mean-spirited, knee jerk, ill-informed ridicule of Tolle from a group of people who already made up their minds that he was wrong before even being exposed to him. I read two of his books and found them both very helpful, as have millions of other people. it might shock you to hear that we are not all morons. (and

I tried to get information about the gurus of the Sedona Method via the internet, and ran into the same problem. Only glowing testimonials of how wonderful it was. Nothing even slightly critical of either the method or the gurus. I actually wasted quite a bit of money buying the tapes, books, and even took a couple of 2-day seminars. I can't say that it made a significant difference in

I just came upon the following tragic story of a teenage girl's death in connection with an obsession with Eckhart Tolle's book, The Power of Now: Quote"Now" You're Dead As often happens, tragedy turns into a lesson. Although in this case, it's a profoundly painful one, because I know the victim's mother. According to Crime Library, 17-year-old Brianna Wil

QuoteII have changed my stance on Landmark. I think it is good for a few people, ineffective for most, and positively dangerous for some. It attracts a lot of people with serious issues, and it is shallow and superficial at best. Some people are missing out on the serious counseling that they need, in order to make a few people very rich. It most definitely is not what you and other Landmark devo

OK...let's see if I can remember what I wrote before the computer wiped it out. I am familiar with both Ekhart Tolle and Byron Katie and know people who are involved in that scene. IMO they don't set themselves up as gurus and simply refer to themselves as teachers. I have read parts of Tolle's book. I found it hard to get through the whole thing because it's a bit borin

If you haven't already done so, run a search here on this site, some good threads on them both. I've looked over some info on Tolle and stay clear of him and anyone like him. Loaded confusing language is used (a.k.a. mumbo jumbo), focus is encouraged on his eyes and appearance, all too much like most every other charlatan.

No experience with them per se, but definitely with their following and followers...they have been all the rage in a lot of Unity and Religious Science churches for the past few years. In searching the web for the above two mystics, there only seem to be glowing accounts. I was exposed to the philosophies of these two through my experience with Unity. In particular, I find Byron Katie dubious in that she charges enormous amounts for her seminars. Eckhart Tolle also seems to be cashing in with all his books (Power of Now was his first book), seminars, even "Power of Now&
