The LW tried to change my personality to be like G&M and then they took God away from me. Still angry over that.

Recalling a wedding and a band playing Sounds of Silence. Weird even for the LW.

After thought,

That should be the LW tried to take God away from me and replace Him with G&M.

I've heard two different individuals in the Walk claim they wrote that song. Do you happen to have any reliable sourcing on your assertion? If I had written that song, I would have hired counsel to represent me and get what's mine. Royalties would be in the millions. Just curious.

Interesting--I just started reading the latest bio on Paul Simon (Homeward Bound: The Life of Paul Simon). A friend of mine recommended it to me and said there are a few chapters that characterize Paul as taking credit for things he did not create. I've never heard, until now, that a member of the Walk may have written Sounds of Silence.

Welcome NickleandDimed
What G & M personality traits do you think were being placed upon you? I'm not skeptical it was happening...just interested in your perspective.
p.s. I was fairly successful in resisting the line dancing phase in the early 90's.

I discussed the whole subject about that song with Jim B once. It is true. He wrote the words, as I recall. I believe him.

Thank you for the welcome changedagain. The personality trait that first comes to mind is a coldness rubbed off on me and arrogance. Hate that. Are you a member of Oprah's book club? The Simon bio paints him "as a music thief." Just googled it.

Yes, puddington. Jim B was talented. Wouldn't make that up.

pbxguy who was the other bloke who claimed it?

pbx guy it's ludicrous on your part to suggest I might have had access to any "reliable source" like a a contract. I can say this. Jim B's father ran the LW publishing/tape bldg. when I contributed my time there and I heard it confirmed by him. He was a fine man and I have no reason to think he would lie. To your point about royalties, I believe there was a time when it was common for artists to buy the rights from songwriters who seldom saw a penny in royalties or rec'd songwriting credit. BTW, I think Beyoncé is presently being called out for stealing. Anyway, if it turned out the whole Jim B story was a hoax, I think I would get a good laugh out of that.

CA I find it odd you never heard this songwriting story about Jim B. as it was widely known in the Valley but since you were stuck in Redlands I guess that explains it.

Yeah, we were so insulated at the time with loosing the Apostle, I seldom was exposed to these human interest tidbits. Also, I never (to my recollection) had the opportunity of speaking with Jim B.
As far as selling songs go, Clapton made it plain that a number of his hit songs were purchased from J.J. Cale (After Midnight, Cocaine etc.). He seemed to have a history of at least bringing attention to the artist(s) that contributed to his success.

NickelandDimed asked, "pbxguy who was the other bloke who claimed it?"
- When I was living in Yakima, Bob (owner of Impact) came during a feast of something-or-other as guest leader.

During the festivities we were out to lunch at a local restaurant and Sounds of Silence was playing on the overhead. One of the guys visiting with Bob from LA said, "Isn't it a shame that Simon and Garfunkle stole that song from Bob?" He seemed fairly emphatic about it. I honestly didn't think much of it at the time, but later on after being in the music biz for a number of years, and seeing the skullduggery that goes in that business, I figured; Who knows? Maybe that guy was right. What a shame that would be.

As lily rose points out (wasn't trying to be ludicrous), it would be nearly impossible for Jim Beach to prove or to trace, but it woudld be worth a good try.
