"I worked at the Sawmill and still have all my limbs!"
Too lengthy for a t-shirt. Please disregard.

"I made 33 cents an hour and was still overpaid!"
Too sarcastic--please disregard.

Anyway, hope everyone has a pleasant Monday. Stay safe (if possible) :)

I also enjoyed my interaction with Simon Nisely at the sawmill. Wonderful person. John Bender was very nice also and his wife. I think he could fix anything. The best part of Shiloh was stealing cookies at midnight with Jim Stewart and Jeff Fry. Gladys knew we did it, but her scolding was not very serious and had love intermixed. Yes, there were some wonderful people mixed in. I never saw any leaders help in the kitchen (or ever seen there) and never helped with pots and pans like Mike Dayton, Gladys husband. He worked so very hard, a wonderful man who always seemed to be smiling as he washed very difficult burned pans. My wife loved helping him and being with him in 1975 and 1976. My wife helped was dishes during ministers conferences. I think in 1976 they bought a dishwasher from the university that John Bender worked on and got running. Before that dishes had to be done from sun up to sun down.

Thank you for sharing this, typer. Yes, many wonderful people. And then, of course, a few aristocratic leaders who viewed manual labor as beneath them. Anyway, it is good to hear about the love, kindness and dedication of so many of the rank and file through the years...especially in the wake of Gladys' passing.

I echo your sentiments entirely.

We were surrounded by super-heroes in disguise, Mike & Gladys being numbered among them. The SMILE on Mike's face and the LOVE in Glady's scolding should have been the source of many sermon-illustrations, but were sacrificed in order to focus on our 'greater cause'.

LOVE was an unfortunate casualty of a mirage we would never reach.

I never worked at the sawmill, let alone suffered an injury there, but that doesn't stop me from wearing my 'Shiloh Sawmill Veteran' hat on the weekends. People seem impressed.

I'd pay good money for a souvenir like that.
