A bit lengthy, but otherwise it would make a great sermon title on one of those DIY church signs :)

Well said. Southgate do the right thing. Stop posting. If Southgate continues to subvert the thread, I'll ask the rrmoderator to intervene.

I also agree with a lot of what larry bobo said. And very much agree with Sagehen. I feel very much the same.

I know that God looks at the heart. I think many of us were searching for something more than we had found in our previous churches. Something to give ourselves to. Also, the "psychic" element, that John could see what was inside us that we couldn't see in ourselves, and give us a Word. It was hard to resist.

For 30 plus years I've been hauling around a box full of TLW stuff. I decided to open it up the other day. I haven't looked at it in years. It was mostly This Weeks (including the This Week inserts) "Gleanings" and "Off the Wall" (produced in Shiloh) and a few tapes and books. I looked at the "Words" I got from JRS and other pastors. So much of it was trivial stuff I had asked for direction on. How much better off would we have been if we were told to go seek/ask God ourselves what we should do? Learn to hear from God for ourselves?

That wasn't my intention, but I will do as you wish. Hope the best for all!

I liked your post. I don't care to discuss my relationship with God either. Don't mind hearing ex-pats like Sagehen and kbryne, Larry Bobo, Invisible and the others talk about theirs. IMO those fed for years by G&M and now Gary often need to rehash it because of years of the extreme indoctrination.

Southgate, not everyone here feels that an opinion they do not agree with must be squelched. Your viewpoint is every bit as important and valued as mine is. Lots of ex-walkers struggle with where to place the affection and regard they had for Stevens, and have difficulty reconciling those emotions with the reasons they left the walk. It is part of each individual's process, and a good reason for the existence of this forum. Of course--I view Stevens as a patently dishonest conman since day one, who never said or did a single solitary thing in the spirit, and would not know a deity if he stumbled over one in bright daylight. The same goes for Marilyn, Gary, and every apostle, pastor, elder and prophet. To me anything short of that blunt synopsis is to be an apologist for Stevens, so you are in good company. I hope you take no offense if you still love him. I personally cannot imagine threatening to tell on somebody here. If one does not care for the lyrics you post, one may ignore them, just as we also ignore the long-winded sermons and scriptures we are subjected to. I care about your journey from the walk to wherever you are today and I find it interesting. I would like to hear more about WHY you have the thoughts you do, and hope you may do so without fear of recrimination.

Lampshmamp, I read your post in which you tried to squelch Apostle Dog's views and he left the forum. I also read your post in which you once tried to squelch the use of term sheep being used on the forum until Larry Bobo chimed in. Some honesty please.

Southgate has had ample opportunity to provide evidence for his views. I applaud NickleandDimed for being willing to report Southgate to the rrmoderator. I wish I had done that (informed the rrmoderator) when pbxguy and LampSchamp ripped into Apostle Dog for expressing his views. Geez the guy had just lost his wife to cancer. BTW, Apostle Dog was an active poster and contributed to the forum for approximately a year and he left following being squelched by pbxguy and Lampschamp.

Can we please get back on topic. The strand is about JRS, the Walk and TLWF. The issues are the behavior and how the behavior of the group and its leaders hurt people. Everyone agreed to follow the rules before registering to participate.

Great post filthy apron. The issue of kids and their aging parents is so relevant now.

kbyrne-great post too. When I came to the forum I thought I would only stay a year. It's been longer because I really enjoy hearing stories like yours.

Sagehen-when you get to it, yes, I would like to hear more about your rides in the van.

The psychic element was a big hook. For me too. I have a box somewhere. Maybe I'll get the nerve some day to open it up. Or maybe not.
