They have been dismissed from parishes they once staffed. And many of these orders are dying, because their liberalism isn't attractive to young Catholics.

The Jesuits were entirely suppressed at one point.

The Jesuit magazine America had to have its editor removed for being to kind to heresy.

And the pope gave some clear signals to them the other day that he's watching them.

This is incorrect, entire dioceses have banned them.

This is incorrect; America Magazine engages in critical thinking and inquiry, which the Vatican does not like.

Must be nice to know everything. But this reveals once again that your problem is not with the Legion or Opus Dei -- it is with Catholic teaching, and with those organizations that are not ashamed about it.

To the reader:
It should be noted that Catholics who are members of cults within the Catholic Church will often attempt to switch the criticism of the cults away from the cultic groups themselves and hide behind the Church as a whole. This is a way to avoid the difficult issues that the cults raise. It also allows them to condemn those that warn of the danger of cults as being against Catholic teachings and/or anti-Catholic.

You are the one who are expressing your own disagreement wtih Catholic teaching. You are saying one of the reasons you don't like Opus Dei and the Legion of Christ is because they support Catholic teaching. Be honest with yourself and everyone else here; don't play games.

wquercus:

I have received some complaints about Opus Dei and quite a few about Legionaries of Christ.

The LOC complaints are quite serious.

None of the complaints have to do with Catholic teachings.

The complaints specifically have to do with excessive control, manipulation, isolation from family etc.

Much like the complaints received about groups called "cults."

One elderly man complained he was exploited financially by LOC.

See [www.culteducation.com]

Also see [www.culteducation.com]

Marcial the founder of LOC has been repeatedly accused of sexually abuse and has been under investigation periodically.

There is a Web site devoted to Opus Dei and its problems.

See [www.odan.org]

Opus Dei Awareness Network sees the organization as problematic and there are former members and families that have appeared publicly to explain their problems with Opus Dei repeatedly.

No one is focused on Catholic doctrine, but rather about the leaders, how these organizations control people's lives and abuses.

This is incorrect; Opus Dei/Legion of Christ cult operations are not a part of the Catholic Magistrum. I am saying that Opus Dei/Legion of Christ operate as powerful mind-control cults within and outside the Catholic Church. In doing so, they engage in completely immoral and illegal conduct.

To the reader: it should be noted that cultic members of Opus Dei/Legion of Christ often will try to pawn off criticism of the cults as criticism of the Catholic Church. The Legion of Christ is largely, but not completely autonomous within the Catholic Church. The Opus Dei cult is completely and totally autonomous, answerable to no one but themselves. Thus, from an operational standpoint, they are essentially outside the normal Catholic Church structure.

ODAN is a one woman operation. One disgruntled person.

Yes, there are accusations about Fr. Maciel -- made today by the same folks who made accusations in the 50s that were disproven.

Merely repeating accusations is not evidence.

And Mr. Moderator, the person to whom I was responding has said many times that among his issues with these groups is that they do accept and teach Church teaching.

Opus Dei is a personal prelature -- the equivalent of a non-territorial diocese. It's prelate answers to the pope, as does each bishop. The person making this statement is lying about the nature of Opus Dei and its jurisdictional status in the Catholic Church.
