Online New Age cult?

Does anyone here have any opinions or experiences to relate regarding

WingMakers - http://www.wingmakers.com ?

which has offshoots

The Lyricus Teaching Order - http://www.lyricus.org and
EventTemples - http://www.eventtemples.com

Here is the Wikipedia entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wingmakers

The material is wide-ranging, the text voluminous and dense. Although it may not be obvious at first glance, there are direct connections with other New Age/"alternative lifestyle" persons and organisations such as:

HeartMath
3HO
Byron Katie
Deepak Chopra
James Twyman

WingMakers seems to exist not only as a commercial venture for the sale of music CDs and art prints, but to promote HeartMath -- http://www.heartmath.com

There is also a WingMakers forum at http://forum.wingmakers.co.uk

Would be interested to know if people at this forum would regard Wingmakers and associated projects as good fun for the spiritually-minded or a possibly harmful New Age cult?

I dont know about these groups but I can say there are certainly on-line cults over the net.
Look at "Heavens Gate" they had their own website. Thats of course befor the mass suicide.

'Heaven's Gate' existed as an offline group with a recognisable leader before they set up an online presence, as far as I know.

What appears to be unique about WingMakers/Lyricus/Event Temples is that they have all originated from an ostensibly anonymous online source with connections with some quite significant cutting edge Internet business innovations. While the leadership essentially remains anonymous and the main activities of this group (which is basically one group) does not at present appear to organise itself anywhere but on the internet, followers are apparently getting together for meetings in person in various places around the world.

Mass suicide cannot be said to be on their agenda, but they are looking forward to a time in the future when science proves the existence of the soul, or as they call it, 'The Wholeness Naivigator' (!). This future scientific discovery they call 'The Grand Portal', one of the major tenets of the 'teachings', which admittedly does mirror the Heaven's Gate's idea of a 'Next Evolutionary Level'.

I would guess that much of their activities are geared towards the year 2012, which holds a lot of meaning for most practising New Agers.

I'm sure modern cults can take many forms.
Heavens Gate certainly did attempt to recruit people through the internet though.

"The Joy of Satan"(JOS) group for instance is practically an internet group although the core members do meet each other from what I understand (I'm not sure if other members meet the core leadership or not). JOS has already been accused of being a cult that prey on teenagers among otehr things.

Banned from Eventtemples

People have been banned from the wingmakers UK forum and evettemples for merely asking questions.

the webmaster for evettemples is the webmaster for heartmath.

On several occassions, people have raised concerns over the pushing of heartmath products, with wingmakers even edorsing heartmath products, only to have people banned for pointing out the association.

The wingmakers forum has become commericalized, and a "generous $5 donation to show your appreciation" paypal donation account.

That money is being channeled to a heartmath contract employee.

Regarding 3HO, many people start the Kundalini Yoga classes and then become teachers. After they start following 3HO's teachings and claim to be following Sikhism. Most people who see them consider them to be following Sikhism though they have many principles and practices which deviate from the religon.

Yes, I've read a number of disturbing reports about 3HO. Charlotte-Marie, the woman who sings on Wingmakers music CDs, is a devotee of 3HO. [www.charlottemarie.com]

People behind wingmakers have been connected to all kinds of NewAgeist businesses.

Somebody pointed out to me that the interview sessions on wingmakers.com with the supposed creator of Wingmakers called "James", are all fake.

It seems the interviews are Mark Hempel talking to himself doing a Spanish accent with an added an audio effect. It does sound like that. Actually, it sounds like James is Mark Hempel "channeling".

This is quite noticeable when you listen to the 'James' interviews and compare them with Hempel talking on the mp3s of the EventTemples.com Audio Sessions. [eventtemples.com] The speech patterns are identical. It's likely that "James" of Wingmakers is Mark Hempel.

Since wingmakers started in the late 90s, people were saying it was all Hempel's doing. There's nothing to suggest otherwise except for his statements to the contrary, and the whole thing's meant to be a myth anyway.

I'd suggest that the cultic aspects of Wingmakers and Event Temples may not become apparent for another couple of years, and even then it will be under such a cloak of respectability it may practically go unnoticed. That is, unless anyone does anything about it.
