The whole thing was based on a military regime {albeit watered down} the moment the kids got off the bus he was there yelling at them at the top of his voice and demanding that they stand to attention. Apparently many of them think it's a joke for the first 10 seconds until he gets right in their faces. The idea is to give them a shock to the system and to 'break them'. The church says that the results are wonderful because they turn rebellious kids into obedient disciples the church can use in the space of a week.

It would appear that anytime someone goes through a short-term program of a few days or weeks and emerges with a very different personality, they have been subjected to abusive cultic psychological manipulations, whether it is a military boot camp or a religious boot camp. From the RickRoss.com list of warning signs:
Uncharacteristically stilted and seemingly programmed conversation and mannerisms, cloning of the group/leader in personal behavior.

If you were put in charge of military training how would you go about it to obviate the cultic aspects of inculcation you disapprove of?

This is a genuine question as I don't see there is a viable alternative.

Given that cultic groups and organizations are unhealthy for any given society and its constituent individuals, it follows that any militaristic/terroristic organization is unhealthy. As such, in order to have healthier individuals, one would need to remove or minimize militaristic groups from a given society.

The other day I read in a Dead biography that Jerry Garcia was discharged under the exact same AR as I was. So I'm in good company. Stay Dead, 8)

How would such a society defend itself against attack or invasion?

Or are you imagining a utopian world where all nations are disarming themselves simultaneously and we all dance around with flowers in our hair playing sitars and bongoes? :)

This seems to be a thread going quite a bit off track.

The Marine Corp. may use thought reform techniques to break and then make "Marines."

However, Marines have distinct differneces that set them apart from the members of identified cult groups.

See [www.culteducation.com]

Let's try to stay focused on the subject of this board, which is "Cult Education" and the related topics listed.
