QuoteOne truly awful development in the "self-improvement-cult" business was their seizing of some of the material from CBT or the cognitive therapy movement. Of course they pretended to be adopting it, when they even admitted to using it, for the benefit of their clients, but of course they twisted it into some bizarre second-rate counterfeit, as they had any legitimate "human-pot

Another telltale sign of Landmark lingo at play is the word "authentic." They are very concerned with "being authentic" (the irony, of course, being that the Landmark ideology is anything but authentic).

Here's a quick glossary with some of the main vocabulary for you. I hope this helps! Though I don't post, what originally brought me to this board was both my boss' and pyschotherapist's involvement in Landmark. I can sympathize! - Strange uses of the word "be" or "being." Like "be your word." "What are you being?" - "Racket.

Quotelandmark is greed and destruction . this is just a sign of our times. Amen. I'm not surprised to see that the videos were removed, but I'm hoping that a lot of people were able to catch them before they went offline. The clip of the forum leader telling a woman that she should commit suicide or die of cancer was proof positive that we are dealing with anything but a "self-

The final scene of the sixth segment tells the story of how cults like Landmark gain momentum. Yes, many of us are incisive enough to sniff out a psychological rat--but what happens when the proselytizing comes from a trusted doctor or therapist? What happens when, instead of a pill regimen or time-tested therapeutic methods, your doctor prescribes Landmark jargon to cure what ails you? This

QuoteHumanista Our marriage counselor harped on The Forum for a year, so we finally agreed to try it. Having had a similar experience (i.e., a therapist who tried to push Landmark on me as some sort of anxiety abatement exercise), I have to say how much this issue concerns me. It's terrifying to think that educated, licensed professionals in the disciplines of counseling and mental health

8. CBT
My former therapist, who practices CBT, is an introduction leader for Landmark, as I learned about a year-and-a-half into our time together. Most of what we did in therapy, as far as I can tell from retrospective research and what I can remember from our two years of sessions, was actual CBT. However, there were a lot of times when she started delving into "being present to" exercises a

It's terrifying to see so many children sucked into Landmark. The following site has testimonials from children and their parents. There are a few links on the left side of the page with several family stories. One mother (in the section about the Leslie family) said the following: QuoteI am so proud of his breakthrough in overcoming his shyness in the Landmark Forum for Young Peop

One of my friends recently removed herself from a rather destructive job experience. The company was based on the principles of the Wright Institute for Lifelong Learning, founded by Bob and Judith Wright. Like most LGATs, there was an awful lot of ambiguous language about possibility and growth. In my friend's particular case (and, yes, this was actually a friend of mine, and not some thinl

Thank you so much for the advice, everyone! I checked the forum leader list on the LEC site and my therapist wasn't there, so I guess I was wrong about that. She must be one of the "gold tags" who assist at the introductory meetings. What would be some signs that she is employing LEC techniques/jargon during our sessions? I have thought long and hard about this and can'

Thank you so much for your responses, everyone! I have actually been doing a lot of thinking over the past few days about my progress with my therapist, and have concluded that she really hasn't introduced any Landmarkian principles into my actual treatment. I am not certain, but she may be a forum leader; however, beyond just mentioning the programming casually in that one conversation,

Hi, elena! I just posted a thread on this, which should be up as soon as a moderator approves it. It describes my experience with the Landmark intro, how I became suspicious of its practices, and a predicament I'm having (I recently found out my psychotherapist is involved in the program and feel somewhat uncomfortable about it).

Hello, everyone. Please bear with me as I plow through an introduction to this. I'll be as concise as possible! I recently began working for a company whose management participates regularly in LE. I was cajoled into attending a meeting, but smelled a rat before I even entered the conference room. There was something so strange about how everyone at work encouraged me to attend, which ad

I have been perusing this forum since yesterday, but was compelled to register by this thread. I work for a company whose management participates regularly in the Landmark forums. I was cajoled into going to a meeting, an experience I'll save for a more relevant thread. After reading this thread, I remembered an interesting tidbit. A few weeks ago, before I was invited to the introdu
