Hah! Well they've met their match here, and I suspect with many other mothers. I have two little girls, and they will attend something like this without me OVER MY DEAD BODY. And I mean that. If I had to get a court order to prevent it, kick my husband out of the house, whatever it took. I would feel the same about any belief-based weekend, Buddhist, Catholic, Environmental, whatever,

Sad that there were no replies to my last post. I guess all the MKPers have been chased off. I really did want to hear what they had to say. I thought this was an excellent article, written from the woman's perspective, which is so completely ignored by MKP (the article doesn't name MKP, but it's very obvious): My husband turned into a tree hugger... and it killed our marriag

@j845, I actually do have some questions: - Do you see any issues with the way MKP completely separates itself and its activities from wives, girlfriends, partners and families? - Have you ever spoken to wives, girlfriends, etc about this? What's their take? - Does your i-group ever involve other people? - Do you think that i-groups and NWTW could be 'successful' and be more

@Anticult, the stuff that sounded paranoid to me wasn't your research, it was (what I took as) the veiled suggestions that I or possibly @curiousnycgirl were here to spread the MKP kool-aid, for example: "Its very interesting how some who supposedly know very little of MKP, seem to have a commitment to spreading serious misinformation and de-facto soft-apologetics for MKP, or at leas

@Anticult, I totally understand that you're passionate about your cause. I'd like to, as gently as possible, suggest that your tone is alienating even to people who agree with you. I think it's curious that I've found myself and @curiousnycgirl distancing ourselves from you, when honestly we have as much (more?) reason to dislike MKP as anyone. Honestly, you even sound a ti

@anticult, next time you go skiing, read the contract. I'll bet the indemnification, wrongful death etc is nearly word for word. I do completely agree that the decision to do this or anything like this should be done together, after a serious discussion of what exactly they're getting into, legally and emotionally, and that any final decisions should be joint decisions. It's the

@anticult, I have to agree here with @curiousnycgirl. Completely appreciate where you're coming from and your passion, but three points: 1. Extreme pro-MKP or extreme anti-MKP at some point begins to sound just extreme. It starts to become hard to credit, from any perspective. 2. @curiousnycgirl and I are both living with an active situation. Using the MKP admonition of speaking only fo

Also, forgot to include... The handbook I have says that families are supposed to be welcomed at the door, and also refers to a toast. I wonder if there is a new version of the handbook that leaves these out, or if people just stopped doing it. Neither of these things happened when I went: "Recruit a team of men to greet all New Warrior Brothers and their guests... Toasting & Bless

curiousnycgirl, I'm so, sooo sorry for your experience at the graduation / "homecoming". I definitely felt VERY upset when my husband came home talking a lot about 'not being alone any more.' We've been married for over 10 years, I gave birth to his two children, seriously, was he really "alone"? And if so, shouldn't he be talking to me and not them

I actually can say from what I've read (and being no fan of MKP at this point), that it does seem like individual local groups, and i-groups within them, seem to be pretty free to make adjustments as they like. This seems to hold up within MKPs own literature as well. Even the very detailed prescription for every action over the weekend has a few places where people can decide how they'

Got my hands on the weekend manual, and an answer to why it has to be secret: Quote1998 New Warrior Initiation Adventure Protocol BookAll of the processes we do are secret. It doesn't work to share it with others. Especially women, they wouldn't understand men's ritual. NOW I'M PISSED! At least I know how to use an apostrophe...

Good luck with your boyfriend. My husband did the weekend a few weeks ago. I'm deeply hurt and troubled that: 1. The organization requires secrets be kept in a marriage 2. Anyone thinks it would be less "sacred" if it were shared (what does that say about me?) 3. He seems to be untroubled by secrets between us I have been alternately deeply saddened, frightened, and furiou
