The NKT are very cult-like, and I would advise you to steer well clear of them. As a former member of another cult that claims to be Buddhist (namely Ole Nydahl's Diamond Way group), I have experience and can sniff out dodgy Sanghas.

This is very interesting to me because I was a member of the Diamond Way cult which used very similar techniques with hypnosis and brainwashing disguised as meditation. The 'meditation' is often used in cults to increase suggestibility, where you are then fed more dogma, because you are more likely to accept it in that state. That was my experience, anyway.
