Guru G's Facebook she removed is back up, but all the comments I made are gone now. No huge surprise, but again, here is the backup.

A friend just sent me some links about a labor union known as "Unite Here" that apparently uses some questionable tactics such as the collection and apparent misuse of personal information and apparent use of Synanon style encounter groups (see below, under "the game"). I figured I'd post it here as there doesn't seem to already be a thread on this group here.

Sometimes the cult dissolves without a leader. Sometimes, like Scientology, it lives on with a new leader. Sometimes, as in the case of Synanon, followers start their own "clone" groups with the teachings they've learned. This thread is intended for discussion of what exactly causes each outcome, and how these outcomes have played out throughout cultic history. How is a new l

If you don't mind me asking, livingengine, what exactly is your experience with EAB? Were you in his group (I don't think he has one). What's your experience with cults in general? It seems to be from your profile on Photobucket and elsewhere you're just a Christian fan of Pamela Geller who doesn't like what EAB has to say about your religion and has taken it upon yours

I don't "follow" EAB. I don't even really like him very much. I think that it's fair, like with Pamela, to call him hyperbolic. I disagree with many of his statements in actions. A cult member would not do that. However, I do not think EAB is running a cult and that is the only thing that should be relevant on this forum. Again, you're misquoting him and makin

I do agree with you, however, that LoonWatch is fundamentalist Islam's answer to "Religious Freedom Watch" and the site is in no way credible. In full disclosure, i'm more of a fan of Sam Harris, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, or Robert Spencer. I tend to think Pamela Geller is a bit too hyperbolic for her own good and says things that could be a liability for those close to her You sa

I stopped reading after you admitted you have no idea what thought reform is and the very first link you posted contradicted your claim. He didn't tell anybody not to associate with Shoebat. He said that Shoebat's publicly stated beliefs in end-time prophecies, and his public intermingling of those prophecies with criticism of Islam gave the impression that the "counter-jihad&quo

Man, For a Guru, she doesn't seem to be very smart. I mean one of her critics is willing to stop speaking and she throws it back in his face. By pushing for all or nothing, all she's done is hurt herself. BTW. I've messaged Ron, and another one of her close followers on Facebook (and here) to let them know i'm more than willing to have a Skype debate with Guru G. So

Guru G mentions "gratitude journals" in her video regarding the Facebook page. Can any current or former members elaborate on what exactly is a "gratitude journal" and what sorts of things it's made up of?

QuoteIcarusSwami G posted a few more videos this evening. One again railing against anonymity and posters here. And another, entitled "Benefits of this Path," that is a ray of hope. On anonymity, I actually agree with her 100% on its dangers. A lot of people misuse anonymity to trash known others unfairly, to defame them, and to attack them unjustly. I would hope that that has not happe

I've seen the video and will write a detailed response on it tomorrow. I do want to emphasize to Guru G, becuase I know that she is reading this site closely, that none of her ex-students encouraged or prompted me to post what I did on her facebook page. Guru G, Retaliation against them is inappropriate. If you want to go after me. That's fine. I can take it. As to a Skype co

QuoteIcarusBut I do feel badly for her insofar as she appears to be suffering and, as she's done in the past, is complaining about how thankless her gurudom is. I just wish that she would realize that her suffering is rooted in her own enormous ego and hunger to be venerated without question or criticism -- qualities that strike me as quite contradicting of her claim of egoless enlightenment

Well. Guru G appears to have deleted her second facebook page (the one with open comments). A screenshot of the thread I was posting in up until the time I went to bed is here. Not surprisingly, the Guru never answered my first question. On her closed facebook page, she's talking about all the "pain" and "deep abiding sadness" all of this has caused. The ultimately i

This should be obvious, but you shouldn't post there (at least without a throw-away facebook account) if you don't care about being identified.

I'll let you all know here if I get a response: QuoteMeGuru Swami G, You say in the video "I am under no obligation to keep anything quiet. Mike77, There is a thread with some informative links about the differences between cults and religions here if you're interested. I agree it's probably best discussed there. Quotemike77I would like to clarify that while I am convinced Sharon and her group is a cult, I don't agree with many at this forum that most all (or all) spiritual teachers and groups are cults. Perhaps some on this forum have claimed that, but although i'm new here, I hardly get the impression that is the majority view. I, personally, don't like religion, spirituality, or quacker

QuoteHappieI thought the purpose of this forum was for helping to target and disclose cult activity. This bit about Guru G and the dissatisfaction some have about her counseling activities seems far removed from the purpose of this forum and the 'cause' appears to have moved into an arena of something entirely different. Dissatisfaction about someone's practices is not a basis for

Continuing with the video: So far it's not very interesting. Just the guru's own "pity party" if you'll forgive appropriating the term, about how she's always the poor poor victim and these former clients who speak out here are just out to get her. At 52:47, Guru G states "It reveals, you know, that if they can say these nasty things, then they were not s

I'm continuing with her video. At 42:00, she's continuing to trash those who leave: "It comes up to some challenge in their life, they're not willing to face it, then they bail, and then you've gotta be the bad guy, so they can stay in denial, or their pity party, or whatever it is that they are, you know, hell-bent on doing. mike77, You mentioned she shares all the recorded Skype conversations with her "inner circle". Do her clients know this goes on? I'm also wondering about this inner circle. I believe Florida statues (see link) do, in fact, give an exemption to "clergy" from licensing requirements. It's sad, but I think Guru G may very well be off the hook on this one. That being said, i'm not a lawyer, and the language of the statute highlighted below might indicate she should be regulated. I suppose it depends on how you read it, what constitutes a "lega

From what I can tell about Love in Action, it's structure and practices seem to be very similar to that of Straight Inc, a Synanon based non-professional therapy cult. I believe there to be a direct connection to Straight Inc. because the language used, such as "raps", the parental "open meetings", the level system, and some of the little details such as saying "I l

Thanks, rrmoderator, corby! I do think there is a valuable lesson that can be learned here, though. It shows in addition to all the other information learned about this group, that the leader does not tolerate criticism and will use her "student's" private disclosures against them. This is almost like blackmail. The message is to say in the group, or at least not oppose it, o
