First off, "By their fruits ye shall know them" pretty much sums it up. My thoughts are on this is the mark of a cultist and someone who is bringing division into the Body of Christ, and specifically Foursquare and it's of the highest level especially considering Mitchell's tawdry rebellious history with Foursquare. For anyone to read this Scribner character's let

My experiences in young adulthood are similar to QuestionEverything's. I, too, thought that changing my religion (Roman Catholicism) would give me the key to enlightenment. I went from the Roman Catholic church to the Episcopal, then Lutheran (ELCA), and then branched into "new thought" religions. My former friend had expressed to me about a year ago her frustration at being unable to spread "Divine Will" in our Parish. (I refused to help her until I'd read all the Volumes and understood it). Ironically, her own condescention and uncharitable example probably turned people off from anything she had to offer them spiritually. She is the reason there is no "Divine Wil

Just a brief comment about Religious Science and Doctors...They are not Christian Science.. People of New thought(Science of Mind,Unity,Divine Science) Believe that positive thinking and affirmations are very necesarry to help you heal. But they also believe that GOD works through the Medical field.(DENTIST,MD, surgeons, transplants etc) And they encourage all to always seeks medical attentio

I've heard plenty Mike Bickle, and I have some friends who've been involved with shooling at IHOP, and you are definately distorting the mans message to justify your anger. There are a growing number of charismatic churches today who believe in spiritual authority. This kind of swept through the charismatic scene with John Bevere's teachings in series' like Under Cover and

"Why? The Trinity, as I know you believe, is the most important and most essential doctrine, but yet how does MSI see it? Shame on MSI or any professing Christian church that does not accurately define and exalt the tri-unity of God. And how dishonoring to God to have (a) Oneness implied statements (out of ignorance or not) on MSI’s Statement of Faith and (b) support Oneness advocates such a

MARANATHA AS PLANTATION ANALOGY It may seem strange to an outsider when I mention the word “status” with regards to MCM. One of the reasons that I had joined MCM was that I perceived that it was an egalitarian “Band of Brothers and Sisters” on a “Mission from God.” We were all equally committed right? We were, as Paul implied in his letter to Corinth, “equal members of the body of Christ” righ

Quote You have it backwards. In New Thoughts, you are perfect as you are because you are a manifestation of God as you. Nowhere in New Thought is there a doctrine that you must be fixed. I don't think that I have it backwards at all, If you read my post, I am not saying there is a doctrine that states you must be fixed. What I stated is that there is an underlying message of needing to be

To answer your question, I do believe some of the teachings. However I have discovered some real contradictions in the dogma. One example is how you are considered "Perfect as you are" While at the same time there is an underlying message that you need to go to all these classes an workshops to fix you. How can you be perfect and fundamentally flawed at the same time? You have it

New Thought, heh funny that sounds so familiar to me. I don't know much about the Unity church folks keep bringing up. My exposure to new thought is through this Church of Religious Science my folks go to. Ernest Holmes being the founder I'm told. Anyhow much to my annoyance I constantly hear my mother talking about 'new thought' as some sort of huge boon to everyone. I don

Carol, I think what helped me decide to leave Unity was the realization that there was no genuine intimacy with the members of the group. Even after going regularly for over a year, I had not established even one close relationship. The Unity Church I was going to was all about volunteering and chasing after any new age gurus that happened to be in vogue. Yet none of the teachings helped to

Quote think the fact that you are feeling guilt is telling about your involvement with Unity. To me it says that you are not there 100% freely, of your own choice. That by not going to church at Unity you see yourself as a "bad" person. Are there any positive reasons that you would want to continue going to Unity? Do you believe the new thought teachings? If not, and you continue to go

Hi Mindful, I think it's pretty normal to feel confused and even depressed when you begin questioning something that has been a part of your life for a while. After I left Unity, I still felt for a while that I needed to be part of a "spiritual organization" and did briefly try a couple of other things but quickly decided they were not for me. I no longer feel the need to be i

Thanks for the advice. I go to a Unity church, and I know that it is not a cult. However, after being there for a few years I have seen that the open minded atmosphere can lead to cult type workshops and activities. I also feel like I have slowly been loosing my criticle thinking skills. Thanks again for the welcome and advice. I just needed a safe place to clear my head. Carol

Unity sounds alot like RS to me. My mom is a regular at RS services. She was introduced to the LE FORUM by members there. She was offered jobs with various multi level marketing schemes by the same members. They've also started some NLP courses being taught right in the church and have occasionally had some New Age style self help seminar circuit replete with books and tapes type grade A jac
