It seems that basically all cults try to pathologize "anger" for misdeeds done by the cult to people.
But its perfectly natural and healthy to be upset about lies told, or wrong's done, or if a person has been used and deceived.

Most folks in culty groups seem to be too far to the passive side, regarding the cults manipulation.
But being full of rage might be too far too the rage side.

The healthiest is strong assertiveness, with strong boundaries. Cults hate those people!
They try to crush that so-called "Ego", when in fact its healthy.

But after getting duped, lied to, deceived, used, tricked, its perfectly natural to get angry, in a healthy way.
Every culty group tries to make "anger" wrong, except when its directed at the cults "enemies"...then it is Righteousness.

I can't believe I've been part of SGI for 4 years and a half and am only hearing about all those horrible accusations and allegations against Soka Gakkai, SGI and Daisaku Ikeda now.

I remember seeing a woman picket outside the SGI kaikan here, in Montreal, years ago. I was like: ''Why the Hell is that woman picketing all alone here?'' I was told by fellow members and leaders she was a former member who got plain nuts and crazy. Mmm... Now, I see why she was infuriated against SGI.

I also remember a visitor expressing concerns about the gongyo book being way too short. I was told the gongyo book was shortened in order to accomodate people (school, work etc.) but there's no legitimate reason why Soka Gakkai and/or Ikeda made at least changes to the original Nichikan Gohonzon.

Two women, a former Soka Gakkai Japanese leader as well as a Japanese singer who left the SGI for another Nichiren Daishonin group (Hokkeko) accused Ikeda of either raping or constantly asking them for sex (while married).

But what about all those honorary doctorates and professorships??? IF Daisaku Ikeda is indeed the fraud some depict him to be... I must say I'm quite amazed all those universities handed him such honors!

Its not so much that Ikeda is a "fraud". If anything he is a very aggressive and ruthless capitalist businessman billionaire, and CEO/General of a large global corporation called SGI.
Isn't the real question about whether the Buddha would be a ruthless, deceptive, corporatist billionaire, running a global organization raking in millions?

Its more about the dishonesty, and the way SGI lures people in, and the way "sacred chanting" is being sold like a lottery machine, and the deliberate mental indoctrination methods used by SGI, and the other points made in the thread.
SGI is certainly a type of cultish group, if not an outright cult, that evidence is very clear.


And as far as all the so-called honorary degrees...those say a lot actually.
First off, it shows what an extreme Ego-maniac Ikeda is, to go out a seek all of those honorary degrees, and then to trumpet them from the housetops.
What is he trying to prove, and to who?
What is Ikeda trying to compensate for, or conceal?

And the so-called honorary degrees, these days, those are bought and sold through "donations". Any billionaire can get all the "honorary" degrees they want, simply through making donations to cash-hungry institutions, its cheap for a billionaire.
A long list of honorary degrees, actually say nothing, and are frankly meaningless of course.

Even if a person has a REAL degree, that doesn't mean that they are automatically "OK", they still have to be checked out carefully. There are lots of fraudsters and even criminals with various degrees.

What would be helpful, would be to post a link, or repost the so-called honorary degrees Ikeda has aquired/bought, and then look into some of them. That would prove to be quite enlightening.

SGI has always sought out "validation" from the establishment. For example, in some cities, they send the local unpaid SGI leader to wait in line all day, to try and get photo's with the Mayor, or anyone in public office, and then try to use those to gain more credibility.

Looking at some of the online PR SGI puts out, its very slick advertising, and very deceptive.

They are promoting Ikeda as a world peacemaker, but not too much at first, that is part of their strategy, to not come on too strong too quick.

They are targeting younger people who are idealistic and try to lure them in with talk of personal friendships with "open discussion" and "world peace", with deceptive statements about the nature of their "Buddhism".

SGI is claiming 12 million members...that is certainly false and fabricated. They are lying.
They would have to PROVE that level of membership, by releasing the lists of "dues paying" members. But they never will. So they can just pick any number they want.
What are the real number of SGI members?

But what if they do have up to a million members?
Think about it, even if they only got $100 YEAR (only $8.00 a month) from 1 million members, that is $100 million a year.

What about all the publications sales, and donations?
What about all the thousands who work for no pay?

The amount of money being made globally by the SGI sect is astounding. And don't forget, this is all tax-free religious money, and can be moved all over the world with all the complex financial stuff.
SGI is a global money-machine.

That is where they get all the money for their fancy "palaces", that is chump-change for SGI, as its all tax-free, and if anything, its a real estate investment, which will earn them a profit.

And those SGI websites absolutely reak cult-like deception, and carefully planned persuasion strategies to lure idealistic people into the sect.

And what else is interesting about SGI...some of the "volunteers" who have worked their butts off for years for local SGI chapters...their names are not listed anywhere on the SGI websites.
These are the same people who are so-called "leaders" locally, who do all of the grunt work at the offices.

Have a look to see if you can find any of the local people listed on the websites.
All the PR and power goes to the top of SGI, of course, they don'tr trust any of the locals, only the SGI inner circle. That can be seen in their recent Code of Conduct as well.

And many of the photos on the websites look quite generic, no names, just nameless, smiling, happy-happy Love-Bombing.

I guess Anticult is right the degrees are basically bought. Its interesting to see he hardly has received any of those degrees in Europe. In most EU countries the state has a far bigger role supporting those institutions fnancially than in the US. I was surprised to see when he recieved a degree from Glasgow University, but in the UK private funding for academic institutions has been expanded. He has received NONE in Germany so far, which is due to far stricter regulations - honorary degrees are mostly due to extraordinary achievements on an academic or lets say political level.
Years ago there seemed to have been efforts by SGI to bestow on Ikeda the prestigious Karls Prize (Karlspreis), which is to honour efforts supporting European Unity and understanding. Around that time it was propagated in SGI that Ikeda was involved in bringing the iron curtain down. Fat chance, certainly he did not recieve the prize and so "rumours" of his "outstanding efforts" to bring down the wall were circulated no more.

If the link does not work, then just google "Honorary Degrees Daisaku Ikeda." Google will give you the link to the wikipedia page. That lists Ikeda's awards, books he's written (or claimed to have written) and honorary degrees.

I can't post the whole list. It's too long. Would you believe he has received 250 honorary degrees from universities? Why does any one individual need that many honorary degrees!? He seems to have received a lot of degrees or honorary professorships from universities in China. He's also received them from schools in Russia, Peru, Bulgaria, the Dominican Republic, Turkey, Paraguay, Argentina, Mexico, Macau, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Kenya, Bolivia, India, Serbia/Montenegro, Vietnam, Cuba, Ghana, Nepal, Laos, Cambodia, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgystan.

Is there a pattern? Well, it struck me that many of these countries are relatively poor. A few thousand dollars (or its equivalent in local currency) goes much further in Vietnam, Bulgaria, or Kenya than it does in Western Europe or Japan. You probably don't have to make a very large donation to get your fake degree.

Also, many of these countries may represent a new "market" for SGI to expand into, especially the former Soviet Republics. Giving donations to universities, and having Ikeda get honorary degrees from a university is a strategy to begin creating a favorable opinion of SGI...and an opening for SGI to move into that country. I've read that in Russia, many cults are springing up. Probably this is also true in the other republics that were once part of the old USSR. Religion was suppressed for so many years. Suddenly it's not, and the fall of communism has created both opportunity and insecurity....people are looking for something, and cult leaders are saying, "Here, I've got what you need!" And SGI will be right there in Uzbekistan to cash in on it! So many countries -- SGI truly is focused on getting into every country in the world, no matter how small or far-flung.

The SGI -- China connection, though, does anyone have any thoughts about that? Surely the government of mainland China is not going to allow SGI, or any other religious group, to set up shop.

Japan is noticeably absent from the list, unless I missed something -- entirely possible in such a long list! Ikeda is too well-known in Japan, and I'm guessing that a Japanese university would completely lose credibility if it offered him an honorary degree.

My search also turned up a website for our learned friend Daisaku. Why was I surprised? If the Internet had existed in Roman times, Julius Caesar would have had one too.

The story about that Japanese Women's Division leader who claimed that Ikeda raped her has been around for awhile. The problem with that is, she did wait years to come forward, and when she did, she wanted money. No witnesses, no physical evidence...it's basically his word against hers.

The "Hokkeko" is the lay organization of Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism. SGI and Nichiren Shoshu fought bitterly back in the nineties...basically a struggle between Ikeda and Nikken, the high priest of Nichiren Shoshu. SGI, at the time, accused Nikken of having solicited prostitutes when he visited Seattle. Again, it was one of those things that you couldn't prove or disprove; too much time had passed. Maybe the singer's accusations against Ikeda were retaliation for SGI's accusations against Nikken....SGI and Nichiren Shoshu have slung an enormous amount of mud at eachother through the years.

I don't worry much about whether these accusations are true because I think there are enough OTHER reasons not to be a member of the Soka Gakkai: the worship of Ikeda, lack of any real Buddhist study, guilt-tripping and manipulation from leaders, lack of financial transparency, and members not having the freedom to change or criticize the organization.

Did he not finish junior school, or something? Sometimes people who drop-out of school are obsessed with being called a "Dr.", so they get fake Hon. Degrees, to try and get higher SOCIAL STATUS.

How many of those were even received in-person???
Ikeda must have a fulltime SGI Ikeda Honorary Degree team, that just line up these degrees and meaningless "professorships" for him.

You give the university a "gift", wink wink, you get the fake Hon Degree paper. Its all a perfectly "honorable" exchange of cash for services rendered.

And its probably good for local PR and recruiting in each country, and makes Ikeda look like a Superhuman, which is part of their strategy. Wait until after he dies, then SGI will really try make him into a Superhuman.

As an experiment, one could pick one of those 3rd world "universities", and see how much it costs to get a honorary "whatever" from them. It might be $100 USD, and a form to fill-out online.
Then everyone can be a superhuman genius.

Controversy
