Yes--I was aware at the time that my injury was likely violating the pure atmosphere, and was lucky to get out of there alive.

kBOY:
This went on far into the summer until word of it reached JRS, who had been absent much of the time because his divorce proceedings from Martha had forced him to steer clear of Iowa. When he eventually returned, there was a general ‘call to arms’ meeting where he railed against all the backsliding (having fun) and questioned everyone’s commitment to the cause. The ‘fun’ was basically squashed (but not the coupling), the Victory Siege picked up additional steam, and by the end of summer, there were four weddings on four consecutive weekends.

-------------------------

Well it stands to reason that he would rail against that, NO PREACHER wants his tithe money spent the bars and have HIS SHEEP missing indoctrination sessions. That's a good way to have the heard start wandering off.

I remember when the general opinion in the outlying churches was that the Walk was unique in the fact that nobody dies (because most of us were thirty and under, never dawned on us) and that also we were unique because we didn't have divorces, which changed when John the door opener was divorced from his unequally yoked old order wife of his youth,( which helped him build the Walk, btw) but anyway, things to change, and when they do change, all of the old opinions go out the window for the current political or religious correctness.

A.D.

By the summer of ‘79, the demographics at Shiloh had stratified into so many departments (Kingdom School included), that cliques were an unavoidable result. Because everyone’s work was so ‘important’, there were always justifiable excuses to avoid going to any service, short of the pursuit of sheer enjoyment, which was only allowed when the schedule permitted. Thus, service-skipping was only justified if you were engaged in something equal to or exceeded the importance that service attendance represented.

'Squashing the fun'...if there ever is a reenactment of scenes from Shiloh in those days, I do not want that role...or anything dealing with the kitchen...or searching for missing fan blades in the sawmill.
I think I would prefer the role of a prophet dutifully 'working on relationships' in Iowa city. That sounds good to me.

...and I'll be in the mattress storage room, where the real action is happening.

You mean...where God reveals the next phase of His Kingdom?

Apparently, many important developments in TLW history took place between the sheets.

I hear that Shiloh almost burned down one year. A fire started to smolder up in the mattress room after someone stacked them so high that they touched the ceiling light bulb and started smoldering.
