In these set ups 99.9% of us cannot think or analyse

Thats the thing. When we are scared, our minds and guts go primative.
We are human, not robots. That is why they often send robots into situations where bombs might be encountered.
When suddenly shocked, and feeling attacked and imprisoned, we can't think.
In that kind of shock, even the most intelligent of us will revert to
panicked small child mode. And in that kind of situation, we are like a
drowning person who will grab anything for stablity -- and that increases
likelihood that we look to the attacker for information and orientation.
We look to the attacker to find out why, why why -- and what we are to do
to end this horrible situation as quickly as possible.
One has to have lots of special training (military, police, paramedic, etc) to be able to stay grounded in a sudden crisis situation.
And if we have come to love and trust a fellowship, we are not prepared for
this kind of treatment.
And this is the point. Being ambushed in a context of trust.
Who expects this kind of treatment in and from a church????
This is perhaps slightly analogous to the shock felt by many who are
subjected to a sudden shift from love into violence.
Look at how few of us are able to get away immediately from a dating situation or a marriage in which a seemingly adoring partner suddenly turns violent.
Because of the prior context of love and trust, we dont have a 'frame' to make sense of a sudden shift into coercion.
And that is what makes this 'blitz' situation so effective for controlling people.
In the military, and in police work, you are taught to expect attack -- and that
seemingly harmless friendly persons are not to be trusted.
But we go to church to get away from this sort of thing, not be subjected to it.
What happened to "My yoke is easy, and my burden light?"
