While i was reading James Watson's "DNA" and Darwin's "Decent of Man", I came to a thought that whether any connection existed between the theory of eugenics and practices in LGAT sessions (like the one I attended in Asia). So I typed (Eugenics Scientology) on Google search engine. This is what I found:

[terror.snm-hgkz.ch]

The site tells how scientology requested members to submit very personal information. Then I realized that I was asked to fill a similar form at the beginning of my LGAT session. The person who introduced me to the class even asked for a copy of my resume (since he was to be my future boss). I am quite certain that they also obtained a copy of my last year's health record.

Well, perhaps the techniques of manipulation and mind control exercised by LGAT, besides hypnosis and brain wash, may also include holding personal private information (something like hijacking).

ok. I apologize for not givig a clear indication of my question. Here it is:

Do you agree that LGATs, by aquiring personal information, are ultimately praticing or implementing eugenics? Or is it just for the purpose of storing in their database as future reference?

hsuchij - Did you sign anything more than this on the first day of Landmark Forum?

Here is a link to a downloadable pdf file of the Landmark Education - Forum Registration Form
[www.landmarkeducation.com]

I have pasted the whole contents below in case it is taken off the internet.

Of note is how LE goes to great lengths to explain that:
1. It's course does not involve psychotherapy or psychological therapy, that it is education only;
2. That no one should go to seek a psychological outcome
3. That you must be psychologically healthy.

To me, point 3 contradicts the other 2.

Also, waving legal responsibility in favour of Landmark in all instances seems doubtful in a court of law.

Check out all the legal agreements at the end and the paragraph on HARASSMENT

I think that most people don't read what they are signing.

I have never seen such a document that is so far away from reality.

Congratulations on having registered in The Landmark Forum. We have designed The Landmark
Forum as an opportunity for people to advance their goals and commitments, to enhance their personal
effectiveness, and to achieve consistently extraordinary results.
To help you to benefit fully from your participation in The Landmark Forum, we ask that you take a moment to state
specifically what you intend to accomplish. Answering this question does not suggest or guarantee that you will achieve
these specific results by the end of the program. However, by being specific, you will facilitate your participation. Please
print your answer in the space below. (You may attach additional pages if needed.)
11. What do you intend to accomplish?
Please read the section below carefully and completely. If you have any questions, please contact the Landmark Forum
Registration Fulfillment Manager at Landmark Education. We will assume from your participation in The Landmark Forum that
you have a full understanding of the following sections and have followed our recommendations.
The Landmark Forum is a unique course of instruction designed to support people in being more effective in realizing
their personal and societal goals. Through a series of philosophically rigorous and open discussions, voluntary sharing of
one’s own experiences, and short exercises, The Landmark Forum provides an opportunity to explore basic questions that
have been of concern to human beings throughout time. In The Landmark Forum, people come to grips with what it
means to be human—not as a mere classroom exercise, but as a rigorous inquiry. The Landmark Forum offers a unique
technology through which people create new possibilities for their lives. The power to create possibility is a natural and
authentic expression of who we are.
Although most people find inquiring into these basic questions to be engaging, challenging, and rewarding, some may
find this to be difficult and unsettling. As with any serious undertaking in life, and to achieve the maximum value from
The Landmark Forum, you should take the time now to determine whether or not you are physically, mentally, and
emotionally prepared to engage rigorously in these kinds of questions. We will assume your presence in The Landmark
Forum to indicate that you have considered the nature of The Landmark Forum and have chosen to attend on your own
responsibility, and that you are fully aware of what you are undertaking.
The Landmark Forum is intended for people who are well.

[b:da2a49033f]Notice of Important Information[/b:da2a49033f]

The Landmark Forum (the “Program”) is an educational program. It is not therapeutic in design, intent, or methodology
and is not a substitute for medical treatment, psychotherapy, or any health program, regardless of what you may have
heard from anyone. The Program will not address issues which are best dealt with by physicians, psychotherapists, or
other health professionals.
Because some people may, contrary to everything we have stated, participate in the Program as a way of dealing
with issues that are properly addressed by health professionals, we advise you specifically that the Program Leaders are
extensively trained educators in the Landmark Education Curriculum and are not health professionals.
We further advise you that no health professionals will be in attendance at the Program.
You are responsible for your health and well-being at all times during the Program. If you have any questions about your
ability to participate in the Program, please contact the Landmark Forum Registration Fulfillment Manager at Landmark
Education. If you have not been feeling well or you have been meaning to see a physician or a mental health professional
for some complaint, symptom, or concern, we ask you to consult with your physician or mental health professional and
resolve this prior to your Program. We will provide whatever information about the Program you or your physician or
mental health professional require for you to make an informed decision.
There will be 30-minute breaks at frequent intervals—approximately every 2-1/2 to 3 hours—but we do not promise that
we will always break at precisely that interval. You are, of course, free to leave the Program at any time. Unfortunately,
any information you miss may not be repeated, and you cannot expect the same result from your participation if you are
not present for all sessions.
Each day there is one meal break in the late afternoon or early evening. We suggest that you eat a meal before arriving
at the Program, eat again during the one meal break in the day, and have a third meal or snack after you leave in the
evening. Although you may eat at other breaks in the Program if you wish, these breaks will be short.
People who have a medical condition requiring them to eat or care for some special need more frequently than the
regularly scheduled breaks, or need special seating or must stand and stretch frequently, should notify the Program
Supervisor on the morning before the start of the Program so that appropriate arrangements can be made for you.
In the Program, you will inquire into fundamental issues that have been of interest and concern to us as human
beings. In the course of such an inquiry, it is normal, from time to time, for some people to experience emotions such as
enthusiasm, excitement, compassion, sympathy, empathy, fear, anger, sadness, or regret. Some participants may find the
Program physically, mentally, and emotionally taxing. If you are unwilling to encounter any of the above experiences in
yourself or in others, or have any concern about your ability to deal with such experiences, we recommend that you not
participate in the Program at this time.
Stress is recognized by most people as a normal part of everyday living. Since different people find different events
stressful, you should assess your own participation in the Program. Health professionals have found that numerous kinds
of physical ailments may reduce a person’s tolerance to even “normal” levels of stress. We have been advised by medical
professionals that persons who have suffered physical, mental, or emotional problems may be more susceptible to stress
than others. We have also been advised by medical professionals that people who have a history of mental illness or
serious emotional problems in their immediate families may be more susceptible to stress than others.
If you or anyone in your immediate family has a history of mental illness or serious emotional problems, we recommend
that you consult with a mental health professional about your ability to handle stress. If you have any questions or
concerns about your ability to handle stress, we recommend that you do not participate in the Program.

I would question the legal worth of the Agreement document above as it contradicts itself in relation to its exclamations that it is not a psychological therapy program.

There are also contradictions in the agreement vs the Forum Syllibus:

[b:77f0a4ab8b]The aggreement:[/b:77f0a4ab8b]"The Landmark Forum (the “Program”) is an educational program. It is not therapeutic in design, intent, or methodology
and is not a substitute for medical treatment, psychotherapy, or any health program, regardless of what you may have
heard from anyone."[/color:77f0a4ab8b]

From the Forum syllabus [www.landmarkeducation.com]
"III. Distinguishing: Opening New Worlds

To distinguish something means to take something from an undifferentiated background and bring it to the foreground."[/color:77f0a4ab8b]

This is a classic definition of Fritz Pearls "figure / foreground" or Figure Formation Process from his psychotherapy method, Gestalt Therapy.

"In Gestalt Therapy the undifferentiated field is called the background or ground and the emerging focus of attention is called the figure. The figure formation process tracks how some aspect of the environment field emerges from the background and becomes the focal point of the individual's attention and interest"[/color:77f0a4ab8b]Theory and Practice of Counseling and Psychotherapy 6th Ed, Correy ,(2001) Wordsworth.

ALSO FROM the "syllabus:

"V. Rackets™: The Payoff and the Cost

In the Rackets segment, we discuss the idea of a racket as an unproductive way of being or acting that includes a complaint that something shouldn’t be the way it is."[/color:77f0a4ab8b]

Now this one really gets me going. Landmark Education have the hide to trademark the word "Racket" which is a term in the psychotherapy method called "Transactional Analysis".

AND ALSO FROM the Syllabus:

"IV. Freedom from Anxiety

Consider that one of the primary obstacles to effectiveness is fear. No matter how accomplished, successful, or courageous we are, fear and anxiety seem to play a role at some point in all of our lives."[/color:77f0a4ab8b]

Anxiety (and depression), consitute the most frequent symptoms treated by Psychiatrists, psychologists ans counsellors yet Landmark say they are not practicing psychotherapy???
This part of the course leads people into the most dangerous part on the Saturday Night, referred to as the "Fear Exercise". "In vivo" desensitisation from Ellis' Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy under hypnotic trance is applied to the unaware participants. This is very powerful psychotherapy. Landmark uses this adapted method of psychotherapy to load into participants unconscious the parodoxical irrational beliefs of:
"Everyone is out to get me"
and
"I have no fear of anything or anyone".

I would like to see a lawyer and psychologist pull apart Landmark's legal agreement.

My point here is not to prove Landmark Education is practicing unethical psychotherapy on it's unaware participants. Many psychologists have written their reports. My point is to show just how an organisation like this can say one thing and doing another that is at the detriment of unsuspecting participants.

What is the Sea org?

I've filled out many questionnaires in my lifetime, never saw one as personal as what Hsuchij found for Sea org. It's beyond personal,,,

I am curious too, to see what is written on the Landmark Forum questionnaire, if it's anything close to that one.

That questionnaire is amazing.

There's info about the Sea Org here at the site, under Scientology. Here's one link:

I've read a lot more about it in the book "L. Ron Hubbard: Messiah or Madman?" which I would recommend. Apparently Hubbard had a yacht and certain members of Scientology were accepted to work in the "Sea Org," an "elite" corp of Scientologists traveling the world on board the Scientology ship, doing such uplifting work as scraping barnacles, scrubbing decks, being e-metered, spying, being locked in holds, and all sorts of awful stuff. The level of punishment and torture covered in the book is mind-boggling.

It's funny how they register participants at the suggestion of pseudo-professionals, therapists and alternative medical practitioners.

At the introductory program I attended, prospective participants were not fully registered. We had to leave a nonrefundable deposit and then wait for a registration package to arrive in the mail. That contained the questionaire. When I read it, I had doubts I could attend due to health problems, so I called to speak to a registration rep. She stood on her head to get me to register despite everything I described. She guaranteed a breakthrough with my health problem (because in Landmark, health problems are stories).

The information above doesn't tell you that you won't eat until 8 p.m., that your breaks are part of the program where you are instructed to do assignments, and that you won't be dismissed until anywhere from 12 midnight to 1 a.m.

Hi hsuchij,

you asked:
Quote

Do you agree that LGATs, by aquiring personal information, are ultimately praticing or implementing eugenics? Or is it just for the purpose of storing in their database as future reference?

The Landmark Forum agreement form asks three types of information:
* Demographic info for marketing purposes - if you check their website they are big on key measurables;

* Family and friends for marketing purposes

* Medical history - this is to provide background on you in case you file legal preceedings against them - (he/she was under medication anyway etc...)

Eugenics - a science that deals with the improvement (as by control of human mating) of hereditary qualities of a race or breed
Source: Merriam-Webster Medical Dictionary, © 2002 Merriam-Webster, Inc. [/color:b1124d9023]

Landmark believes that what makes a person who they are is determined by "nuture" rather than "nature" as with eugenics. It is our experiences and how we perceive them and tell them as stories as Hope writes, that determines who we are. Nothing of a hereditory nature here. Further, Landmark believes that if we complete the past, ("be clear"), our future is no longer an extension of our past so we can break from the past and "be possibility". Eugenics does not fit into that philosophy.

My question again is:
Did you sign anything else other than the agreement shown in this thread and if so, where can we get a copy of the form?

The questionaire i signed was written in Chinese and on paper. I found no trace of a copy of questionaire available at that particular LGAT website nowaday. But I am certain that, even in Chinese, it is similar to those forms posted in the forum, particularly focused on mental & physical health problem. The person who introduced me to the workshop had doubts about the effectiveness of the program on me when he talked to me a month before the LGAT session. As i said, I had given him a copy of my resume. He knew very well about my family tree (pedegree) and certainly he had no problem to access my health record as he is the vice president of a big company. I raised the concern of Eugenics because from what I read in "DNA", Dr. Watson talked about practices of Eugenics were primarily about pedegree and solutions to mental illness (of course other disease). As in where i stayed, we had huge identy problem in this society, mainly who come first to this land and so. So i recalled several incidents during LGAT sessions, some commends were raised on the origin of the members. I do realize that LGAT are becoming popular here, so once i have a copy, i'll post here.
