What is a cult?

One thing very interesting about the organized cults is how do they organize their powers within their own people. Everybody knows that it is difficult for a government to try to make people to act as a whole, but the members of a cult can do something that is unbeliveable----they go to some place very quick, they leave the spot in good order without leaving anything. Is is just because if a group of rogues is going to deceive other people, the group within themselves is gonna have some agreeable way to distribute their gain.
There are many cults existing in the world, what makes them emerge and what makes them exist? Who can name some cults in the world and are their theories believeable? What harm do they have or why can’t them be banned by their countries? Is it just because some government from other countries try to support them for some political reasons?

littlefisherman:

Governments don't specifically support cults.

But many cults do take advantage of tax-exemption, which is granted by a government.

See [www.culteducation.com]

This page within the Web site answers the basics about cults. It also has supporting links with additional research.
