When you come into Chabad, you are assigned a mashpiah or mentor. They tell you things like, “Everyone needs a friend. Someone you can talk to.. etc. Basically, they always want to know what’s on someone’s mind.
I heard Rabbi Goldberg once say, that if a bachur (“student”) is out of line they go to him and say, “We know who you are, and we know who your friends are … [and shape up or ship out]”
Another thing they do is go through your personal possessions and if there is any contraband (like Rock and Roll recordings) they simply toss it out without even telling someone about it. I forgot the term for contraband. Sorry, I will research it.
