Honor your mother and father. All of the world's major religions have that commandment at the core of their beliefs. No commmandment is given to honor a religious teacher however and none should. The only time a teacher should be held in high regard is when that teacher teaches the family how to function as a unit and how to survive as a unit in our tempestous times.
When a group like Chabad Lubavitch polarizes families against each other that's cultic behavior and against the teachings of all the world's major religions. The Jews consider the 5th commandment to be that of honoring parents and the Catholics consider it to be the fourth commandment. Of course, there are extenuaing circumstances if a child has been abused but based on the law of averages, it is good advice to honor elders.
We live in a society that honors youth, beauty and vanity. We live in a day and age where to so called Generation Gap has taken deep root and out society has suffered as a result. Our only salvation is to take stock of ourselves and go back to the teachings of honoring accomplishment and spirituality.
