Light, I can certainly relate to what you went through. I, too, had many decades in. My own family was busted up by the doctrine of the "unequal yoke". This is a family that is ruined forever. Some members in the cutl, some members outside the cult. At family gatherings there are topics simply not talked about. A state of detente exists. But the family is dysfunctional. You a

Slandjt, I've got to agree with you. Gary isn't going to repent or change. He has too much at stake. I know several people like your sister that are so hard wired into the LW cult, that leaving it is probably not an option. It's like a zoo animal that can't live in the wild anymore. They've lost the needed skills. A member doesn't fully understand just

I recall, well, a service in Anaheim where HC stood up and yelled to JRS "Brother Stevens, you are The Christ". JRS never corrected him or made a comment about it. In the inner circles, many people echoed what HC had said outloud. I never heard JRS correct anyone about this. To me, this was a line that got crossed.

Anyone watching the TV series The Path? Wow. Lots of familiar stuff. A story of a cult falling apart. I like it.

I discussed the whole subject about that song with Jim B once. It is true. He wrote the words, as I recall. I believe him.

Welcome 5&10. You posts are most welcome. I remember the LW saying "the kingdom of god is relationships" But the relationships I witnessed in the LW were based on conditional love at best. Lip service to G&M were all that mattered. That was a kingdom I could do without. Glad you found freedom. Ain't it great?

Regarding Bob M, who we all loved dearly. I recall hearing that Gary tried to take Impact away from him. Sort of an "apostolic take-over". And that once Gary was in the driver's seat he ran the company into the ground. Not sure how accurate this is. But I've heard of Gary taking over several "kingdom businesses" and really making a mess of them. Seems to be

Regarding the marriage to Marilyn. I forgot to mention this: it wasn't Dan's idea. He was just the hatchet man. The foundation of this doctrine was laid out by G&M in the Feast of Tabernacles messages from 1987. As I recall.

Thank you Invisible for that post. I had forgotten a lot of the details of that time, circa 1988. I think I blocked it out of my memory. Those were awful years for me. I recall the sermons and Dan leading the charge. It was supposed to be a “commitment to Marilyn, unto death”. It was sold to us as a total commitment, like a marriage, but even more. It was a commitment with your life, even

That last episode is really excellent. Steve Hassen talks about the similarities between Scientology and other cults. For example: 1. A secret doctrine that new people are not exposed to until fully ensconced into the cult. 2. Submitting major life decisions to the cult. 3. Shunning of people that leave the group. Note: The Living Word does all three of these things. They do

I was thinking today about the LW principle of a "right to a higher confirmation". I recall several teachings about it from the pulpit. Maybe even a tape or two about it. The idea is that if your local shepherd (or Designated Relationship person) gives you a word or directive that you do not agree with, you have the right to submit it to another person higher up in the ladder of divine

The A&E channel is running an interesting series titled: "Leah Remini, Scientology and the Aftermath". I highly recommend this show. While the LW and Scientology are very different cults. The methods used to control their members having striking similarities. We could learn a lot from this TV program. Also I compare the leadership in this way: L Ron Hubbard = JRS David

I think the closing down of churches was an easy way to move funds into the central LW accounts. Especial places like SG, Fresno and Santa Barbara that had real estate. One thing is, the LW was pretty hush-hush about what was being done. But seriously, who's going to object? If you ask, you are labeled a "critcal spirit" and outcast. I know this first-hand.

Well, it didn't work as cassette messages. Maybe it'll work in CD format. Repackage the old messages and sell them to congregants. Sounds just like Scientology. A quick and easy way to raise more cash for the cult.
