Thankyou, FatHippo, for your detailed and interesting posts about your time in Struthers as a child and teenager. Welcome to the Forum and I am so glad that you felt able to come onto the Forum and share your experiences of being part of SMC. It shows that there are people, maybe a substantial number, who read and follow this Forum without making themselves known or not right away, anyway, like y

I should add that, of course, the "stoning" is more symbolic and psychological than physical. If you watch the series, from the outside you would see nothing but differences. "Gilead" is (allegedly) a religious society, with much overt physical brutality. Landmark felt like more of a corporate cult, to me. The "philosophy " is very different. The whole thing had a ve

A more recent description of LEC provided by 'new future' Comments on how LEC methods have been changed so as to avoid scaring off new recruits. Refers to Tuesday night. Also by 'newfuture' Note: this gives an entire page of references to the LEC Tuesday Night This is for a page mostly about Landmark. Ignore what Corboy wrote.

SpeakingUp, First, I must apologize for being vague. It is necessary. You seem to remember quite a bit of detail about the final, Tuesday night, session of the Forum. I am wondering if you happen to recall that the Forum Leader wrote an acronym on the chalkboard/dry erase board? If you attended in 2012, they may still have been using it. I don't know if they use it now or not.

I found this forum while I was researching into Landmark and it made me feel less 'stupid' for feeling the way I do about Landmark. My research came about after watching Leah Remini's Scientology & the Aftermath series. So many little things made me acknowledge that I had seen these techniques and things being discussed at Landmark Forum. I couldn't find an existing th

Oh, Typer - Good to hear your stories. Great chicken joke. I remember the exclusivity JRS placed on those School of Prophets booklets. He also liked to make certain "closed services" available to attend by permission only. I think South Gate had a closed Tuesday night service, and the Valley had Wednesday. When I finally got permission to attend those "closed" services,

When a former friend recruited me into doing the Landmark Forum, I was reluctant. Her argument was "It's $500 and a weekend. What have you got to lose?" She was so invested in my doing the Forum that she paid over half of my tuition. The way that it was presented to me, it was something to try, with no further obligation or strings attached. There seemed to be very little risk

Thank you, Corboy, All of this is true. In addition, you can hold someone responsible/accountable for a specific threat, but when they deliberately make it vague and confusing, they can claim that it wasn't a threat. They can chalk it up to your interpretation, and if you push it, they will turn the tables; saying that YOU are being problematic, or just plain paranoid. When this was

The fear exercise is the most obvious, but they also have other, more subtle ways of instilling fear. You will walk into the Center, and someone there will inquire about some detail of your personal life which you had not shared anyone at Landmark. This creeped me out much more than the fear meditation, which was more straightforward. You will wonder how they knew that, and then you will remem

From what I have read on these boards, (unless I'm missing it), very little has been pointed out about the Tuesday night session of the Forum, other than that participants are pressured to bring guests, and that there are a lot of "feel good" testimonials. All of this is true, but... When I did the forum, there were a couple of brief periods in the Tuesday night session that mad

Hi folks! It has been good to read the posts regarding the baptism in the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues. It is Biblical and brings with it many blessings to a Christian. This should then result in others being touched by the out flowing of the Holy Spirit. I do not believe that we are baptised in the Spirit solely for our own benefit, just to give us some kind of spiritual "high&quo

Hi Folks Yes, Ifellaway, good point - it's not easy to say who has been advised to look to God instead of medicine and how they were advised in this way. I do believe you are right about targeted sermons though. In particular mental illness of any nature was always viewed as satanic in origin and therefore, very few would admit to having depression or other mental problems but a surpr

My husband is attending Landmark Forum this weekend. It was suggested to him as a tool to help his biz be more succesful. He called me and asked me to go to Tuesday night with him and wants to enroll our kid in the child program. He keeps telling me how emotional the experience has been. I decided to google Landmark Forum after he asked me to go and I found all this info on it being a cult. How w

I came across this excellent article written online by someone who had, after much pressure from his boss, taken the landmark forum. It's worth reading for anyone considering doing the forum. It's also worth reading for those seeking to remember what happened to them in that weekend. It may be triggering for some though I hope not. Read original article here Breakthroughs and Blar

@ajinajan - It is something of a 'new' strategy and I know this from having been part of this. They call it the 'reinvention of the enterprise'. It is new strategies for what the top people have decided landmark is now about and how they go about getting the world to buy into that. There is a whole document(s) about what landmark now stands for, 'the business are in'

Keeping Their Eyes on the Cross Washington Times December 23, 2002 Two dozen young believers zealous for the Gospel celebrated their first Christmas as a new church 25 years ago. Tomorrow night, on Christmas Eve, many of them along with their children will welcome dozens of potential converts to what is now a thriving, 2,600-member church in Gaithersburg. There, first-time visitors to

C.J. MAHANEY AND THE TORONTO MOVEMENT "I was in C.J. Mahaney’s home church (Covenant Life Church, nee Gathering of Believers 1978) from 1981-2000, and in its predecessor teaching-meeting, so maybe I can add something to this discussion. An interesting conversation re: gajokai (kaikan-HQ baby sitting) - QuoteMav QuoteYzak And like you mentioned Awaken7, when people come to you saying that their philosophy is the ultimate experience you will have, it is because something not quite right is happening. I will personally have to say this......I would rather be out in the streets caring for people than be in a building bumping elbows with people......that's just satisfying the flesh......I got tired of it, but not tired of God personally giving me the strength I need to do HIS WILL to take care of HIS PROPERTY.....HIS PEOPLE!!!!!!! It's not hanging out at The ROC or anywhere else......

scaredtoleave, your post has inspired me to continue what I am doing, which to be truthful in some ways, is out of my comfort zone. Maybe that is true for many on this site and that this is the gift we are given here. Not only is it a safe place for expression but a place to seek and find understanding. Understanding is often the foundation for forgiveness especially the most difficult of all
