Long ago I was in an Edgar Cayce study group. I enjoyed it and it helped immensely. However, I did NOT see Cayce as the end-all, be-all. I kept it in perspective.

Amen. She has a cult-like following, because (like Michael Jackson, etc) her fans are rabid and you dare not question her or say anything negative, even constructively negative.

I agree with many of the posts here. And abuse is all about "power and control." People who create these groups naturally want power and control, so it would dovetail with abusive behavior such as crimes against children.

During my research I am bowled over by the similarities between domestic violence and cult membership.I have taught domestic violence prevention and awareness for over 30 years. So it seems like escaping the emotional problems caused by these organizations would be akin to escaping those in an abusive relationship. Counseling?
