Jeff, Your post contained language which I am aware of is also used in the Potters House i.e. "the fellowship", "pioneering", "mother church" and others. And somewhere in the back of my mind, Mike Nevelle's name is familiar. Is Praise Chapel connected with the Potters House/Mitchell in some way?

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all, Like many of you, I've just returned from a few relaxing days visiting family. I'm now done with this subject on a public level and will not be posting again here. Thankyou to all for contributing; both pro and con. There remains a couple of items from the distant past which if found to be suitable will be added to 4shared in the fu

Hi SynergyCon, You may be interested in reading The Soteriological Significance of the Physical Sufferings and Death of Christ, by P.Mitchell, 1978. Mitchell examines in detail Thieme Jr's teaching on the subject.

the reporter, I have not read all of Thieme Jr.'s publications, but are you aware of him ever giving the gnostic background to 1 John? and how John in verses of this letter is addressing gnostic teachers/teachings and is playing off their system with his use of certain words? I have read a few other bible teachers writings on 1 John and they all address this.

thereporter, After the Sodini story broke, this forum received quite a spike in hits within a short period. I had thought to myself that there may have been journalists looking into the Thieme world for the first time. Little did I realize that a 'reporter' had already been doing the hard yards. "Once you break down a pen it is no longer a pen." That just about sums

60 Minutes will be running a segment on Turning Point tonight. Transcripts will be available sometime afterward on the website. Not sure if video will be available.

thereporter, Well, that was an interesting read while having my morning coffee. "Electro shock therapy like the Colonel received for his schizophrenia". Really? Hmmn. I have long agreed with your position that the books were free ("grace policy") because it returned to him a degree of attention/adulation.

TT, I do believe that some of Thieme's ideas could feed an individual who possessed concerning behaviour/views and contribute to a tipping point. Yes, the only picture I have of his background is from reading some old posts of his. When I first read of the shootings, I remembered an account from some years ago in my notes in which another group person murdered his wife then killed him

F&L, I had a further dig through the Hemet pastor's website and came across three documents. Each seems to be addressing one point of common teaching found within the doctrinal movement. 1. The pastors use of Greek and Hebrew in class 2. Rebound and teaching the scriptures 3. Emotions and objectivity More reading I know, but hopefully you won't be burnt out just yet!

Thoughts from a pastor in Hemet, California. (read all 17 responses to the article):- "...I've devoted a significant portion of my ministry in the last 10 years to helping people within Thieme's sphere of influence to overcome these and other errors. I've earned the right to speak to what the movement does to people. . ." And an earlier discussion of his on

landonalberson, Unfortunately many people over the years had to attend Berachah night after night. They were not in a position to 'fast forward' RBTjr's rants, threats, and self-aggrandisement. Their position was one of utmost stillness and silence which clearly went far beyond normal social behaviour. I think RBT3 publishes regular updates on his father at the church websi

I feel this may be staged. Jeffries is walking towards the cafe and there just happens to be a man at that moment unsuccessfully chatting up the same lady at the table. From which he then proceeds to successfully 'charm' her.

Hope, I used to regularly pass a Christadelphian church on the way to work and only saw one or two families outside, all dressed up. Another time I passed a different church and there was one family eating lunch? on a table on the lawn outside with no one else around. I think I saw a sign up there mentioning a free meal? It was a surreal picture. Was this something practiced?

Thanks for your thoughts tmas. Apparently Berachah will continue promoting Thieme Jr's books and ideas. I don't know whether the right-man right-woman book and/or its ideas will continue to be promoted, but your comment (which is one more in a large number) certainly reveals the harm of this teaching. He also wrote a book called Careless Women which I have a copy of.

Something to consider for long-term members who may not have come across Lifton's writings. (The following text was recently posted in the LGAT forum):- Robert Lifton labeled the extraordinarily high degree of social control characteristic of organizations that operate reform programs as their totalistic quality (Lifton 1961). This concept refers to the mobilization of the entirety of th

Lars, A couple of nights ago I downloaded a recent podcast from a Radio National Australia 1 hour program discussing Landmark. There were a couple of former Landmark workers who spoke about their involvement. The show host also played an interview with a Landmark promotions? director in the U.S. which was a bit of an eye-opener. One of the former (4 year?) paid employees mentioned signi

Yes, a manipulative threat which failed to materialize. Others have said the same thing. The speaker at this audio link examines the Rebound teaching and comes up with his own conviction on the subject of confessed sin. (A se

"Order the Basics series" At times I have come across persons in the Thieme system, who suggest to inquiring minds that they listen to the Basics series of bible doctrine. These are classes from the 1960's available in audio format, and to quote one speaker, were "very good". Jump ahead a few years to the late 1970's and you will find that the environment has
