Landmark is learning the lesson of Scientology, the more you try and squash free speech, especially on a medium as fluid as the internet, critics are only going to get louder, and their message is only going to spread further.

Laura, I agree with Glam on this one, this is exactly the forum language any graduate might use, and though it may be just a well intentioned parody, some of your more devoted readers might not see the joke and take it seriously. After all, your readers trust you, and established trust is the device that landmark exploits to further its business. If you know and understand what this means, you

QuoteconcernedfriendI am considering sending the following letter to the singer in my group. What do you think? Something like having a band member try to recruit people could reflect badly on your group, so yeah, I think it's quite appropriate to tell her either shut up about it or get out. I suggest you add to it a bit to really emphasise that point though, probably right after that seco

QuotepragmatistThe two top things that bother people about a company like Landmark (and it doesn't end with them - Tony Robbins is another NLP devotee) is: 1) they charge money for what they do 2) no discernable product/service is perceived by those who never attend anything like this, and are just observing from the outside (like you are doing right now by reading RR) so it's easy

7. Neways
I'm a member of Neways and I gotta say I'm pretty happy. While they do sell a pie-in-the-sky vision of wealth and success, I know that at least one of their products worked for me. I worked in a kitchen scrubbing pots in my late teens, treated my hands pretty badly while I was there and ended up with cripping dermititis that was so cracked, bloody and painful I had to quit my job. I

Thanks for speaking up funnyguy! It's funny isn't it? I love my Landmark friends, I didn't meet one person in there who I thought had a sinister intent (except for maybe one). They are on the whole very nice people who just want to improve themselves and help those around them improve themselves. They've just been conned and they see the relentless business recruiting as

You know, it's this kind of stuff that reminds me of what Hubbard said, "dispose of them quietly and without sorrow." Apparently Werner squirreled this bit of the tech too. I know it goes on, I've seen people 'glossed over' when they drop out, and I'm sure it happened to me when I left. One day they're this big possibility making machine getting all the win

QuoteMylesQuoteI've experienced being humiliated in front of 200 people by the leader in the advanced course for even hinting on that Landmark might be a scam. Thank you for your post! I signed up for the Advanced Course for September 2006. Can you expand on this for me? What do you mean by "hinting that it might be a scam"? How do you define "scam" and what did yo

Stay tuned Myles, I'll be giving you a big post RE the advanced course when I next get in front of a PC, it's too long of a "story" to get into right now, I'll be up all night! I'll be out of town for the next few days, but I'll give you a response when I get back.

Well, he certainly got worship and devotion through EST. These days with Landmark, they would like to pretend that he doesn't exist, how's that for authentic? I guess he'll just have to make do with the money and memories of better times.

It's never a good idea to condemn or demonize the cult or the cult leader, remember your friend has been pre-programmed to shut down and or disconnect whenever he or she hears that stuff (learned that one the hard way!). I believe probably the best way is just to ask a lot of questions, "why do you think they do A" and "why do you think they teach B" just to get their cri

Too bad it's not coming to Australia, I'd really like to see it. What a horrible con man he is. I can't believe people still doubt it. All my lekkie friends say "oh he deserves to be a multi-billionaire, look at what he's done for humanity!" What exactly has he done? "Transformed millions of people!" And what does that mean? "Come do a course, you'

Unfortunatly, Rosenberg was much more cunning than Hubbard. I cannot imagine any kind of major incident that could possibly happen that would expose them... anyone who gets damaged or killed is written off as mentally ill. I think in the end though, the same system that supports their growth will ruin it. Quite a few people I invited to meetings said "no" and left me no room to respond

Quotenutrino Time and time again, regardless of the board I'm reading, the discusion I'm having... it comes down to the same thing... they go in, hear a lot of remarkable sounding exposition, yet, on returning home, can't really say what it was all about, can't exactly remeber the point, except that it was so high energy, and deep, and we met all these great people, and everyt

That's awesome! I wish I had had enough courage to debate with these people over the phone and tell them what I really thought, but at the time I was still freshly out and still unsure of myself and of them. I still told them to get effed though once I got tired of the sales calls. ;) -Dynamix (proud to be on their "do not call" list)

Hi all, I was reading some stuff on RR when I came across an interesting quote: QuoteLandmark Education, starting in The Forum, teaches you to change what doesn't "work" for you, what doesn't make you happy. If you can not change it to what you want it to be, then terminate your relationship with it. () Now I did the forum, half my forum in action and most of my advance

I thought came to me today, I remember vaguely that on the Sunday night of my forum, the Leader started talking about choice, she had a volunteer some up, she held up two different colour pens and asked him to pretend they were chocolate and vanilla ice creams. Then she said to the guy "okay, now choose a flavor." The guy chose chocolate. She asked him why. He said because he liked choc

Quoteautomaticftp Finally, I do have to give her credit for broaching the subject and being up-front about it from the beginning. When she asked if I had heard of Landmark, I replied that I had, explained how, and that I chose not to participate. Ah so she wants to fix you! Well that's kind of what it is, let me explain. The Landmark course is supposed to be the ultimate in personal development, arrogant, selfish people go in, and enlightened, wise people come out. And one of the things which I heard a lot of from forum leaders during courses was "don't you know anybody who you would really love to take this cours

Sometimes there are things and phrases that the leader or coach will make up that infects the sheep and becomes part of their language (outside of loading the language, which are universal Landmark terms like "racket" and "empty and meaningless".) I'll give you an example, in the advanced course, the forum leader was constantly talking about "being a flame for someon

That's exactly right and it's a thought I had in the back of my mind throughout the courses, "if they're saying that always wanting to be right and fighting against being wrong is a limitation on your life, then what's with all the bullying? What's with keeping people up in front of the microphone for half an hour badgering them with 'you're running a racke

Dear leftcoast I am not proud to say that I myself have disconnected from friends within Landmark when I left. At the time talking to them was a difficult experience for me because of the memories it stirred up about the whole experience, and I had some people who would try to talk to me through email and over the phone - I just ignored them. I feel at the time it was the right thing to do bec

Absolutely right Nutrino, in fact it's the other way around: Landmark can't stand to have people talking about it and saying anything bad. Harry Rosenberg has said (and this is a quote from the Harvard business study thanks to Midonov123 for sending me that) "it is no longer possible for informed people or publications in the United States to pin pejorative labels on us." Yeah

Well what she's basically doing is taking your expressed anger at landmark and directing it at herself. No matter what you say, she's not going to be able to accept criticism towards landmark, she's already had the trap built into her that if she wants this amazing life (I believe they call it "living life powerfully and living a life you love") she's going to have t
