QuoteGold DustIn addition, true spiritualist will GIVE THERE WORK of the spirt for free... it will not be a money making business like so many make it. Well...there is a difference between a quick public reading, in the case of a Spiritualist, or a quick prayer ofered in other cases, and a session. If you set up a session, you're going to get charged for the person's training and exper

QuotejoannabenzIn my experience, Unity is totally a church for free thinkers. They do not have dogma, welcome other religions, and never force a minister's beliefs or a speaker's beliefs on anyone. This is a "do-it-yourself" religion, and people are expected to accept some teachings and disregard others, as they see fit. The object is to look at the teachings as theorie

QuoterandomfactorI agree Unity Church tends to be very open and sometimes awfully trusting. It has become, however, a place a new cult is operating. Basically, the general beliefs of the New Age have now been codified into a single belief system, and members of this group are using the "Spiritual" churches to gain converts. I really don't think that's accurate. New Thoug

Quotefrogs25Christian Science had a great flare back in the 1890. Think about it. Unlike today where there as been a surge for science and technological advances, back then the medical field was just starting, and the medicines did not hold much promise. Then all of a sudden, a woman starts a religion that held promise of permanent healing. Combining the two words Christian and Science was he

QuoteCosmophilospherBut the New Thought type ideas are PERFECT for a cultish group. Why? Because part of the BS (Belief System) is that YOU HAVE TO BELIEVE 100% FOR IT TO WORK. So if you DOUBT it won't work. Actually, that's inaccurate. The principle is that it works exactly as you belive it to work. No New Thought organization demands that you believe any particular thing. CS needs to move beyond Eddy. Some Christian Scientists are willing to make that journey, but most of their leadership appareently is not.

I once asked a Christian Scientist, if the body is not real, then what does it matter what I put into it? I admire much of the work that Mrs. Eddy did. Some of my favorite quotes are from Mary Baker Eddy. ("When you have eliminated all fear, teh patient is healed.") One of my big problems with her and with CS, however, is her insistence that hers is the final revelation. Note t

Channeling is only as good as the channel. Try listening to an out-of-town radio station. Note the interference. You can't quite pick up wht they're trying to tell you. That's what happens with channelers when the channel is not clear. Now turn on a local station. Note how much clearer it is. That's a good channle. It's not the messenger, it's the message

I don't think it's fair to call AA a cult. It varies from place to place, is highly decentralized (so much so that local leaders barely know the national office, from what I understand.) It doesn't demand your money nad won't take financial support from just anyone. It has no theology, except the aforementioned "Let go and let God" (as you understand God -- the Hi
