quote I suspect the leaders will miss the point and think they are the ones unsoiled by evil (verse 4) but that is not how I would see it. I am sure that there are many who fit verse 4, but they won't be the ones who appear on the platform. [ the petitor] yeah, I read it the same way you did Petitor, then afterwards thought the same as you did in your above quote. What can you do e

decided to have a read of this bit of the bible as I thought it might have something to say and this bit seemed quite relevant to this discussion Revelation 3 “Write this letter to the angel of the church in Sardis. This is the message from the one who has the sevenfold Spirit of God and the seven stars “I know all the things you do, and that you have a reputation for being alive—but y

between roughly 11 o'clock last night and 9 o'clock this morning there were 100 views of this forum page. That's quite a lot of interest if it's accurate, given that most people would be asleep for at least some of these hours!! I wasn't around at the time of the shares fiasco but I know a few right-minded people who Were around and who were and still are disgusted w

It is appalling if the leaders are now claiming otherwise Squareone, I think you'll find that SMC are quite often changing their minds about the reasoning behind certain routes they want to explore. they may well be, was just saying that on the subject of the school etc as outreach I'd not heard anyone say it is or isn't, I had just assumed it isn't. Which is

It is appalling if the leaders are now claiming otherwise don't know if they are or not, it was an assumption I made myself about the coffeeshop and school since you can go in and just get the service you'd expect from a coffeshop and I didn't, in the recent few years I was there, see an influx of people from the school as visitors to the meetings. I suppose I could also have

John 13:35 New Living Translation (NLT) 35 Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” Romans 2 v 4 New American Standard Bible Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance? Bearing in mind that these verses apply to me also and that I k

thank you for considering my question. Yes I've seen the commentery on that sermon. Had actually referred to the headteacher in my post but I seem to have edited it out. ?...anyway I mentioned in a previous post that I thought her thoughts on life were pretty questionable from the wee bits I've seen on latigo. I don't really know how these things work but could a parent not complai

this isn't a snidey question, I really do see where you're all coming from, I really do, I'm just wondering what you would do if you knew someone from Struthers was to be your child's teacher in a local authority school. Is it that they're at Cedars en masse?

it sure would blackwatch. My first paragraph there was more in response to something rensil said at the end of their last post, but I agree with you, any parent of a mind to privately educate their children would not even look at the school if their first contact was this forum or latigo. Maybe though if their first contact was the school and Then they read this forum and latigo they might choos

I do know and care about people in the school etc, but they're not my friends. That was made quite clear to me. I find it hard to wish them ill though, for instance I wouldn't be happy to see the school or coffee shop close and they lose their jobs or whatever. That's just how I feel, I don't expect others to feel the same. I can see that the school has a dubious financial his

thanks cbarb:) Clive, if you look at the school website it says the curriculum is based on the curriculum for excellence. Not sure what 'based on' means particularily but I used to look at their blogs and they were doing very similar things to those that my own children were doing in the local authority school (minus the ipads and weekly trips of course;) The format of the webs

thank you Chester, knowing a bit about the history helps in understanding the fears surrounding the school. Having not been around at the beginning I probably hold too simplistic a viewpoint. I judged the coffeeshop and school on their merits and they seemed to be providing good service in the areas they were supposed to be providing good service in. That they weren't, it seemed to me, being

this is descending into madness. Don't believe the fee paying parents associated with the Cedars School of Excellence are mindless idiots, neither do I believe their children are being groomed. Maybe someone should ask the congregation if they know where their money is going, maybe they do, maybe they don't. On the fees...I know a couple of people who've looked into the school for

I imagine that the parents of the children who go to Cedars school are as caring and protective as any and would surely immediately remove their children if the staff were sermonising in the school or treating their children badly. I really don't see how they could get away with it and would think it would be fairly big news locally if they were found to be doing it since, as far as I know,

mandrake, I have to say this....... and am prepared to be shot down in flames by all! :)...... I'm not talking about the headteacher, some of the things she says from the platform are 'questionable' from what I've seen on Latigo and she's in charge so I realise there's a question mark over the whole thing AND I don't particularily agree with private education ..

Blackwatch, you really do sound like you have the strength of character others have mentioned recently, but do take care of yourself. I was a pretty well adjusted person and Christian until my - (compared to many) relatively short - association with Struthers, but I have to say (without being too dramatic) that it's taken much longer to feel on an even keel again. Coming to the conclusion t

the changes I saw weren't in rules and regulations. I had no idea about the rules and regulations until I read about them on this forum and Latigo for the first time a few months ago! The changes I saw but am not sure were genuine were in the way some of the people interacted with me. I can't help wondering if they thought I was involved with what was being said on this forum from the s

I understood what you meant Rensil and I understood Clive's explanation too. I hear what you are both saying. It's just a wee personal thing, I usually liked the hymns that were sung,I found them meaningful and I think there are good singers there, perhaps enhanced by acoustics I don't know. I have very mixed feelings about the place and some of those in it but I can still walk by

Petitor I apologise for being tactless. No, present employees are of course not more important than past. It's just that I happen to know some of the present ones. Am sorry. Actually some of the present employees that I really care about are the ones who have hurt me the most in this whole debacle...am just not near the point where I want to see the whole thing crumble down around their

part of me can see why the billboard thing may seem like a good idea. Hit 'em in the pocket where it hurts kind of thing? Personally though I wouldn't want to see that happen as there are people I care about employed in the bookshop and school. It Might( but I doubt it) get the leaders to be present in the room with those who need to speak to them about their time as part of the church

oh no Clive, how do I get my money back!?!...;)....am aware there are techniques it's all a bit unfortunate to say the least. Somehow though, I managed to enjoy, for what it was, the content of some of the old hymns sung at Struthers. That was all really. Yes blackwatch, be careful whether it's passing SMC stuff to Latigo or trying to help fellow members of SMC by passing on the new

With the gluttony question, it probably depends on how honest she is about it. I know who you mean but I only heard her preach a couple of times so I don't know if she addresses this issue from the platform or not. (Although I seriously doubt it). We all have problems I guess, but if she expects and harshly holds the congregation to believing something - that Christ meets all our needs - wh

my experience of the singing was good (although I agree it doesn't sound the same on the recordings). Often, however, any joy was quickly extinguished by the preaching or something being directed at you by the preacher... or something else. I genuinely enjoyed the singing at Struthers.. but I found no genuine friend there.

thanks for that blackwatch, had a wee listen to the 'Christian's Happiness' sermon just now, thought it was excellent. A good way to start the day! :) Looking forward to working my way through all of the sermons over time. I hear what you're saying about anger, Merciful7 and how thinking it all through can consume and not help. I don't want to live my life angry either but I'm finding it more helpful and healthier to at least direct my anger in the right direction and not inward as I've been doing where it turns into either rage or depression, neither of which I want in my life either. Not to be

Totally agree God can use you there and I pray for many more awakenings :o) Would be happy to know your online sources for bible teaching by the way.
