bjw & gtw? -- Kudos to you both for your clarity and courage. If people would only stop and compare JM's teachings against the WHOLE COUNSEL OF GOD they'd see that JM's teachings do not line up with it. GCC/TMS/TMC seem humanistic in their elevating the doctrines and disciplines of men above the salvic work of Christ on the cross and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. It

QuotemhbmHi all, I have a question for you. It is difficult for me to tell how much of what is happening with my daughter and son-in-law is from GCC teaching or things they have dreamed up themselves, so I thought I would ask you. They are now choosing to not celebrate holidays. Has anyone seen any of this type of thing with GCC or MacArthur followers? Thanks. That's really interesting

Thank you bjw and gtw? for getting us back on track. My prayer this Easter Monday is that everyone who reads this thread will understand that true faith and trust in our risen Savior sets them free from every burden that JM would have them bear. Jesus accomplished it all, and declared "It is finished." His is the victory. Hallelujah, He is risen!

Quotebjw I'm curious as to why people on here are saying that MacArthur churches are Calvinist or Reformed. MacArthur rejects Calvinist/Reformed eschatology and students and professors have had to leave the college because they refused to convert to MacArthur's viewpoint. Is it only the salvation doctrines you are referring to? Bjw, I've been in a JM network church for a very

Sorry, Mark. RBDs = "Reformed Big Dogs". I didn't realize I'd left out an initial reference. It's a nickname many of my friends use to refer to the T4G and TGC guys.

bjw -- The MacArthur Study Bible is now available in NASB and the highly prized ESV version. You have to wonder about a Bible in which the pages are 1/4 scripture and 3/4 commentary. And the fact that the word "MacArthur" on the cover is five times the size of the word "Bible". I have no idea where JM and the other RBDs got the idea that expository preaching is the excl

Mark -- I read your report and completely understand why you are so passionate about exposing cult-like groups such as GCC/TMC/TMS. I don't have any first hand knowledge of how JM's organizations handle their properties, donations or other funds, but the word on the street among JM fans is that he donates all proceeds from the sale of his books to charity. Whose charity is anyone

teacher -- The authors of that website on angelfire don't give citations for the quotes they attribute to people. I did a quick look around the web and discovered that Arnold Fruchtenbaum is a messianic dispensationalist with a Masters of Divinity from Dallas Theological Seminary. He's the founder of Ariel Ministries. He recommends a few of MacArthur's books on the ministry website

Quotegracetowho? As I mentioned to Mark, we need to be careful to have a surgically sound discussion, comparing apples to apples, Otherwise a JM follower would just tune out, AND I do believe many are Christians in that organization. Yes, gtw?, I also think this is very important. Innocent believers find their way into JM's teachings through their genuine desire to love God and His Churc

You have to give JM credit for following his own argument to its logical conclusion. He's all about obeying authorities, even evil, tyrannical, murdering ones. This is why people I know who attend GCC believe that the Founding Fathers sinned by declaring independence from Great Britain and fighting the Revolutionary War. This must be why JM sees nothing wrong in associating with Douglas Wils

Oh, how well I know that list! It is the treadmill upon which I lived my life for over a decade. There is no resting in the peace and grace of God. There is only the grinding guilt and incessant pursuit of perfection that inevitably leads to despair when you fail. But you can never let them see you fail, so you become very good at keeping up the appearance of holiness, as the joy of life drains

As the Christian conference circuit becomes more and more lucrative, it's interesting how MacArthur has broadened his associations to include the types of men whom he labeled false teachers and heretics earlier in his career. It's odd that he gives these guys a pass on many primary doctrines that they do not hold in common with him. He invites them to speak at his college, at his semina

mhbm -- It's been my experience that attempts to dissuade MacArthur followers from believing the false teaching only causes them to hang on tighter to it. They are convinced that they alone possess God's truth, and that anyone who doesn't believe as they do is a false Christian. I myself was very stubborn in this regard, to which my family and friends can attest. If your daughter l

mhbm, I'm so sorry to hear of what's happening with your daughter. I was just like your daughter not too long ago, and by the grace of God the Holy Spirit revealed my error to me and helped me rediscover my freedom in Christ, along with my creativity and sense of humor. Don't give up hope. Keep praying for her and reaching out to her in love. Try not to criticize because that will

MOTG -- I don't know MacArthur personally, but I've spent 18 years very close to his ministry. Your story is heartbreaking. It took a lot of courage to tell it. You are in my prayers. Teacher -- Many people are so full of the fear that neo-Calvinism has instilled that they can't move past it to deal with problems in the church. I was stuck in that fear for a long time. Standing

bjw -- Please do follow through with starting a website for those of us who have been hurt by the MacArthurite family of churches. Your efforts could help comfort, heal and restore the wounded ones to a right relationship with Jesus. When you do start a site, please post a link here if that's allowed. You've perhaps heard about the lawsuit against Sovereign Grace Ministries, anoth
