These churches that practice snake handling as part of their worship and/or test of faith. Aside from the dangerous and risky practice of handling these snakes can they really be called cults? Other than the snakes I don't really know anything about them.

QuotecallanbraswellbuddyYes,did you see it?what was your viwe on the A&E ? I noticed that the attendance at the church was small and someone mentioned earlier that members have left this church. I remember the people being interviewed were the same ones interviewed in the HBO feature and talking about the same things.

QuoteA Truth SeekerDear Mr. Ross, Over the past several years, the pastor has linked himself and the church up with Wayman Mitchell’s group, Christian Fellowship Ministries, out of Prescott, Arizona. Did this church change it name? It was known as the Potters House and also the Door.

I knew that this was part of certain native american cultures, but was not aware of this particular "church" located in an area east of here. A Trip Down Peyote Way.

Makes me glad I live some 300 miles south of this area. There was an article in the local paper yesterday about possible trouble in light of group leader Warren Daniels expelling the mayor and other members. This article is not available on line, but her is another on the subject:

In that HBO special there were segments where this pastor Riggs was suppose to actually be excorsizing demons from one or two members who were supposedly possessed and this demon was suppose to be talking back. Was this all staged?

QuoteOriginally posted by rrmoderator See the following links: Interesting; thanks, The only other group in this country that I know of that handles snakes as part of a ritual is the Hopi tribe. They have some sort of ritual snake dance where they even carry the snakes in their mouths!

These churches where the handling of venomous snakes is featured in worship services. Is it one sect in particular or one of many?

My feeling about hate groups such as white supremists are they are mainly made up of people who in reality project upon minority groups their own feelings of self hatred. It is common for such people to belittle and put someone or something down; what such a person is really telling us is how they feel about themselves individually.

I understand that the leader of this group David Moses Berg is now deceased and wondered what effect this has had. Is the group still active?

Ten years ago I watched a special on HBO dealing with Satanism. One of the segments was about this church in Tulsa which put emphasis on demonic possession and satanic ritual abuse. It is called the Morning Star Testimonial Church. The pastor convinces his followers that they have experienced satanic ritual abuse by their parents when they were small, but don't remember it due their minds &q

QuoteOriginally posted by Claire I took a picture of that grave stone when I was visiting Tombstone. While we are on the subject of frontier stuff; there is a ghost town not far from Tombstone known as Sunnyside. It was a communal settlement of a group known as the Donnelites; don't know how much of a cult they were though. Contains photos of mine that I submitted.

I've read where some people have accused Amway of being like a cult. What's the story here?

Interesting forum Indeed! I'm new to this forum so I'd like to take the time to say hello. This article appeared in the local paper this afternoon. Hard to understand how rational and intelligent people can fall for this stuff.
