New episode of Netflix documentary series "Explained" on Cults. I think it might interest some of you guys. They don't discuss the Moo, but his moving image is in there somewhere, right where he belongs.

Thank you annette for you strength, it gives me great inspiration and courage. I have been under the influence of M. during a pivotal moment in my life, starting a family and carreer. All of this turned out beautifully after all, but the process was definitely tainted with the limitations of cult indoctrination, and complacence with cult like phenomena. Although the NPD manipulation will be

"I wanted to say something: “If anything that I have said inadvertently that cause offense in your heart, forgive me.” What a wonderful confession, Moo, such vulnerability and humility, you must be exeptionally enlightened to be able to admit that perhaps you might inadvertently have caused offense. Of course this utterance came spontaneously to you, as an outbirth of pure Aware

alonzo, thank you for sharing this, you give a very detailed and specific account of how mooji might deal with people he judges to have what he calls "stale energies". Thankfully you have for the most part healed and recovered beautifully from the upheaval you experienced after this "intervention", but it is a shame you have had to go through it. Im curious about the ef

Sahara71, I hope that you will take courage from the bright and happy experiences with transcendence that you have had spontaneously when you were younger. Even if I don't think that Mooji intentionally tries to deceive us or harm us, that is no excuse for putting out video's to the public that put you in such a state of utter confusion, because they do contain thought reform and h

haha, happytown, thanks for the heads up ;). You're right that these discussions can be helpful clarifications for those who come out of the spell of the absolute, and wonder. In fact, one of the reasons that I decided to write these posts, is that for some people who experience this falling away of false beliefs about Mooji, and start to question things, pretty much as I did, there is

happytown, you are right consent is very important, and it is clear that some people have not been aware of what they signed up for, I have just read through the guidelines and FAQ that are provided to you if you sign up for a retreat which do state that there can be adverse effects if you suffer from preexisting mental conditions, but not so much that you can experience altered states

First of all, I have to agree that malicious intent is not required to violate people, but that harmful behaviours or harmful practices are what matters, even if they arise as side-effects of well intentioned ideals. It is a matter of definition what counts as a destructive cult, if you think exploitation is required, as Lifton does, I think that presupposes malicious intent but I am wi

happytown this sidestepping of questionable ethics by the absolute is definitely a great threat and potential problem. The question i am asking is: is this problem actualizing in the moo group with malicious intent? what questionable ethics are we talking about? who, if anybody, is intentionally using the absolute to cover up his or her questionable conduct? in fact how closed is the envi

Great article by Freinacht. thanks corboy for posting this link It is my opinion that the greatest fault of moo is that he overemphasizes the absolute and our subjective relation with (or identity as) the absolute (i put the ingroup terminology in brackets). He Does this very consistently, also with Regard to himself, which is why It seems to Some people that he is inflating himself with go

@Constantin thank you for sharing some of your experiences with Moo and at Sahaja. First of all i hope you are doing ok yourself, as i know that even just this process of coming to grips with the desillusionment can be quite confronting, it is for me. Having followed Moo for probably around 8 years, i had never been very devotional by nature myself and consider myself to be very critical an

i am quite upset about all this, starting to consider that moo's intentions perhaps aren't all that pure and true. i still feel that getting to know yourself beyond the body-mind is a valuable thing, at least it is for me. so i got this tool of self inquiry basically from moo and my whole attitude was very forgiving towards his use of what i felt were means to get people to the point

the video posted by yourinlove I feel is illustrative of what is wrong with Moo's conduct as a teacher, he lacks humility, cannot just say that he is sorry for saying something that hurt peoples feelings example: in response to the note from Omkara about florida around 2:39. Instead of just saying sorry he is only sorry "sort of" he feels and says that he should be free to b

corboy, your posts reveal a deep understanding of the social dynamics of cult like groups, and you pick up essental clues from my posts, like denial, and belonging a while back, to give very articulate, comprehensive and useful evaluations of these topics, with a subtleness and sensitivity that i love and truly admire. but.. you are a bit overwhelming with the posts, you swamp any di

Corboy mistrusting your own mind is I think at the core of this issue. If one would apply a neo advaita perspective, I think one might say that mistrust itself is aspect of mind that needs cleansing. To overcome any mistrust, I think many neo advaita adepts would agree, would be essential to come into your true self, be it through self-inquiry or other means. The problem with gaslighti

The video that was poster by i yam that i yam was one that i have watched When it came out, and that i took to heart in a very profound way. The enthousiasm i interpreted to represent a genuine Interest and passion from moo to help ‘us’ overcome the obstacle of doubt that he says inevitably arises When coming close to realizing the self. I feel he admits that his goal is a from of br

Thanks for your kindness sahara71 I am doing fine, ups and downs. I lack any feeling of belonging, which is why an ultimate identity with pure consciousness is very appealing to me. It is beyond human relationships and independent of them. That is also why laughter is so effective as a manipulative and rhetoric device, as is being discussed here now. It is quite obvious to me that mooji u

I have closely followed this thread and it has stirred up quite alot of mixed emotions in me. I consider myself to be follower of mooji’s teachings and have internally jumped to his defense on multiple occations, just to be upfront about where i am coming from. At this point i am in the proces of reevaluating Some of the practices that i had considered benign before Reading About them from a ‘cul
